1B11047E-286C-49C1-BB12-0060A320A16D.jpeg I purchased this piece in India last year as an investment (also to wear at special occasions). It’s genuine rubies, genuine south sea pearls, genuine uncut (polki) diamonds, genuine cut small diamonds, and the gold is 22k. It’s two peacocks. The centre ruby is about 1” high as a guide for size. Cost in India was 250,000 rupees. (3500.00 USD). It’s worth almost double that here in North America. (I keep it in safe deposit box for that reason!) I just wanted to share because the artwork and craftsmanship is amazing, these types of pieces are all handmade by the jewellers so no one is identical to another.

I’m not Indian, but I’m married to one.

Wow, what a special piece! Is their gold "mixed" in another way than what we are used to in Europe/America? Or is it just the photo that makes the good look like it has a slightly different hue than what gold "normally" looks like?

(For ref. Scandinavian gold has more copper in it than southern European gold has, they use some other metal in it's place, so ours (Scandinavias) is less bright yellow.)

Their gold is 22k so it’s 96.5% pure gold. In North America we are used to 10k and 14k. Even 18k is rare to see here. My wedding band and ering are also from India and are 18k because 22k can’t hold micropave diamonds. The orangy hue is the actual colour of almost pure gold.

My wedding set given by his family is also 22k necklace, 4 bangles and a big finger ring. (Also in safe deposit box).

Here you can see the necklace... same colour as it’s also 22k.

Oh, that necklace is divine! And those bangles are amazing too! Such wonderful gifts!
And you look absolutely beautiful! :) Thank you for sharing!

I did not know that about American gold! I believe the gold used in Scandinavia is normally 14-18k! Earlier anything under 14k were not considered real gold, but for some reason they, around year 2000, decided to changed the amount for something to be called gold to 9k instead.

Beautiful!!!! I love indian gold. I am indian myself and my family and I visit often. My mom strictly only buys jewelry from India because it is A LOT cheaper and it is 22k gold there as you said. We just got back from a trip two weeks ago and my mom had quite a few custom pieces made to wear.

I grew up admiring my mom’s Burmese jewelry. They are also very intricate and made with 24K gold. Necklace “clasps” are sometimes just a piece of gold wire that you bend open and closed with your fingers so it is very soft and malleable.

I talked to a sales associate in peoples and she told me that Gold value had increased so rather than increasing the price of their gold jewelry they just lowered the carat of gold on their items so as to miantain the price. And they recommend 14k for engagement rings because its more durable. I think in Canada they are more on the stone than the gold. I live in canada too and was surprised to see a 10 k jewelry whose price is equal to an 18 k one back home

We lived in Saudi Arabia for awhile a long time ago. The gold there was orangy too because it was more pure. I think it was 22K too. The Saudi women wore bangles up their arms and often used their bangles to exchange for money in the souk when they wanted to buy something. I think it was considered safer to keep their money on their arms than in a purse.

We bought our wedding bands at Tiffanys. They are 18K.

Did you have a traditional Indian wedding?

Yes we were married in India as he couldn’t get here on a visitor visa to do the wedding here. Canada is very stingy with visitor visas for Indians. We married there in Gurdwara (we are Sikh) and also had it attested in court so I could use the documents to get his Permanent resident card for Canada. He is here in Canada now. But we go between India and Canada each year.

I've always wanted to go to a traditional Indian wedding. My daughter is married to a Sikh. He was born in the US. They got married at the courthouse.
