If you were to start now, what would be your first VCA piece?

Hey everyone! I have the opportunity to pick a gift at VCA, and I really really love the YG Guilloche Pendant! Do you think it would be a good first piece? As it's a gift, I'd like to wear it often so it can be seen by the person that will be gifting, but I also heard it scratches and gets dirty easily , do you think it would be a good first piece? What would you chose? I also really like the hammered and the pave.

As a pendant the guilloche will be fine and won’t scratch unless you layer lots of other necklaces on. The bracelet is much more prone to scratching if you stack bracelets.

I think what matters more is that YOU love the piece and like how it looks on you and how it makes you feel. The hammered and pave are lovely low maintenance pieces as well but both give very different looks. The hammered is a nice casual piece while the guilloche has a high shine glow. The pave is sparkly but can also be worn casually. I find the guilloche a bit more dressy.

I highly recommend trying them on at the store if you are able to, before deciding which piece to get. Good luck!

It’s really such a personal choice. I happen to love my hammered gold 10 motif, so the hammered gold pendant would be my choice. The pave is pretty too.

I’m personally not a fan of guilloche. I know it’s a popular piece, just for me it always reminds me of the strobes from a disco light. (Might need to run and hide after admitting that on here! :giggle:)
This is a great dilemma to have so ultimately you should just pick what you love!

I would say it depends on how you usually dress and what style you are into. Guilloche is nice but personally I find it too shiny to wear everyday, and should fit more dressy look. I have a hammered YG pendant and I almost wear it everyday without any issues, it goes well with most outfits.

Also, if you have a more healthy skin tone, guilloche can be a good fit for you as it glows better than the hammered one.

For pave one, I think it fits all situations.

Hope this helps ;)

I have no VCA pieces but my top 3 first picks would be:
- gold guilloche pendant
- black onyx bracelet
- malachite Alhambra earrings

Even though the guilloche does scratch easily, since you're thinking of the pendant, it actually won't move around or hit things very much. It'll sit on your neck and I think the weight of the gold will keep it mostly in place. LVloverCC on Youtube has both the guilloche pendant and guilloche alhambra bracelet. She did a review and you can see that the bracelet is far more scratched up and less shiny than the pendant. That is, of course, assuming that you're not layering additional necklaces with it.

Anyway, I think the guilloche shines beautifully and would be a great first piece.

If you're wondering why I haven't chosen any VCA it's mainly because:
1) I'm not a careful person with my jewelry, bags, or shoes. I'll need to change my habits and lifestyle a bit to give my items a little more TLC. VCA pieces in general are a little more delicate in the fine jewelry world, especially when it comes to stones vs gold.
2) My husband absolutely hates VCA. Not that it matters that much since I would be the one buying it. But he always manages to persuade me to buy something else on my wishlist.

For me, I learned that for a first piece, I would want something I could see all the time and is super low maintenance, which would be either a ring or a bracelet. I would choose something pave of either piece. Of course, that has nothing to do with you since your preferences could be completely different. I vote for something, anything with pave.

i would choose the most $ out of my wish list - which will probably be alhambra pave pendant. i actually bought the vca 5 motiff as a starter piece (which a lot of people love and would recommend). But with all these crazy price increases, it's best to knock off the most expensive piece first : ).
I would recommend going to the store to try it out. I thought that I wanted the guilloche first. But, I wasn’t sure about the shine when I tried it on in store. In the end, I went with the pave as it’s so beautiful and low maintenance. That said, jewellery feels and looks different when worn. So it’s a very subjective choice and experience. What looks amazing on others, might not look the same on you. I feel that it’s important to try out the pieces and photograph yourself with it from different angles to see if you like it.

My first piece was a ring. I would still pick ring as my first piece but probably frivole. From the alhambra options, I like onyx or hammered so it would be one of those. Not a fan of guilloche as I find it too flashy.

I think it's such a personal decision as some people either LOVE guilloche or not. I definitely love it and recently got the vintage pendant and I wear it 24/7 without taking it off since I got it a few months ago. Since it's solid gold, it's relatively worry free, and I don't sleep with it layered, so the chances of getting scratched are small. I do layer it sometimes when going out, but I take the other necklace off when I get home. It goes with everything, I love it so much, and my only regret is not buying it sooner!

I think both hammered and pave would be similar since they're gold (and diamonds), so you could wear them 24/7 as well. There is a big price point between guilloche and hammered vs pave though. I am personally not a fan of hammered.

So in the end I think go with the style you like best! I think either would be great first pieces to have.

Mine were the lucky butterfly WMOP YG pendant and ring, for symbolic/meaningful reasons, and I love them both as much to this day as I did when I first got them.

Edited to add: it's a blurry pic I had to crop into, but here are my first VCA piece (lucky butterfly pendant) and most recent (YG guilloche pendant) layered together. I love them both so much!

As others have said, the best first piece is one that is very meaningful. Several years ago, my now husband and I were walking 5th avenue where we walked by VCA and looked at the windows. I was completely obsessed with the Sweet collection window-- I'm pretty sure I left nose prints. They had the pave and RG stacked/paired together. That next year, VCA opened a stand alone boutique in our city and the rest is history. He surprised me for my birthday to get the earrings and it has been a tradition ever since.
