What carat size can you get with $1K? I wasn't aware you could even get the tinest of the studs for that price! But fabulous if you can! I love the look of twinkling little diamonds.

In platinum you can get .16 cttw for $950, in gold you can get .16 cttw for $750. Very tiny but very sparkly! Personally I'd probably go non-Tiffany, to have something a little bigger.
For $1,000 I would probably go for the DBTY pendant instead of the earrings, or maybe a Cartier Trinity ring (I think that's still under $1K). Another fun choice would be an extra wide Hermes enamel bangle for $650. Not diamonds, but they are gorgeous and a great way to add interest to an outfit.

I'd buy some nice gold pieces- for $1k you should be able to get a beautiful 18K bracelet in a nice weight if you bargain and pay attention to gold market price.

You could also get some beautiful pairs of high-end South Sea or Tahitian Pearl Earrings.
