If you had some extra money, would you spend it on bags or ️jewelry?

Ok this might not be completely new and a little silly, but I was recently overseas visiting my family. I have lived for many years in the US now. I have a range of bags from no name to chanel and can't wait to buy more. The thing is when I went back home I saw the ladies in my family/friend circle wear their gold jewelry depending of course on their income. That is when a little voice in my head started saying," if you have the extra money spend it on ️jewelry". But I absolutely love my bags too. The few pieces of jewelry that I have don't get much wear in my current lifestyle here in the US and like I said, I love my bags to death. But there is this little voice in my head that tells me it is a better "investment" to buy jewelry instead for the long run. Any ideas ?

Personally, I find that I utilize my purses far more than my jewelry. I can't really speak to which is a better "investment", since I don't purchase either as investments. But I do find that I rotate my bags way more than my jewelry. I tend to use the same staple pieces of jewelry (which are very sentimental to me) every day, only occasionally switching up a piece or two. IMO, if you aren't going to utilize the item, what is the point of purchasing it, even if some would argue that it is a better investment? Its all a matter of personal preference. If you love your bags and utilize them, stick with bags.

Jewelry isn't an investment; you'll rarely get what you paid. You may get lucky, but you can with purses too (if only I'd bought more LV and Chanel a decade ago). Buy what you love because the value you place on an item is more important than potential resale value.

I've been leaning to jewelry as of late though. This is mainly because I have a well-rounded purse collection and I want to have a few nice pieces for daily wear and don't care for costume pieces as much.

At certatin time in history, jewelry bought overseas was good investment.
Especially for Americans there to buy/import it.
Quality stones. Good penny weight gold.
Now, same as everywhere, imo.
Superficial bling with factory-engineered rubbish jewels.

So, either would be fine choice.
Bags & modern jewelry are for today, imo.
Not the future. Except as sentiment dictates.
Follow your heart.

I focused on my jewelry collection before my bag collection and I'm glad I did. Prices were better and jewelry rarely if ever goes out of style. I would vote jewelry. I wear it, I love it. And I can pass it down. Bags will always rotate to some extent because of changing styles. So it feels like there is always time to get a good bag.

I already have all the jewelry I want, so I vote bags.

Acquiring things for their future value, or to "pass down" literally never enters my mind when wishing for or choosing to buy either. Certainly, I hope that my daughters will enjoy having my things one day, but they may not, and that's ok. My things are valuable TO ME insofar as they reflect MY taste and I enjoy wearing them in the here and now, and that's really ALL the value I place on them.

Very true. When I bought my first chanel bag, I had the option of jewelry instead but thought I have a few pieces that I don't wear much because of my lifestyle. The pieces I wear the most are rings. But you are right. My daughters may not like my things, so it is better to buy what I like and find useful to ME. I may like a piece of jewelry one day, but for now what I really want is a classic chanel bag!

I had invested on Jewelry first before I got into the handbag and shoes craze... I'd still say that Jewelry is a better investment although luxury purses stand the test of time... Jewelries tend to last longer and won't look as worn out when you pass it on. I have Jewelries that were passed on from a few generations back... and those are the ones I treasure the most...

I actually am one who isn't fond of jewelry, other than a few charm bracelets i never wear it. So for me i am most definitely bags that said a few pieces from my grandmother are still around so i guess from a longer term standpoint, jewelry does go a further distance.

I think everyone should have a nice jewelry collection as they should have a great bag collection. I have a set of gold jewelry, silver jewelry, pearl jewelry, and turquoise. The only thing I want is jade. My bag collection is skimpy so I will buy another bag before buying more jewelry. But I won't say no to a diamond gift!

You make a really good point. Everyone should have a collection of what completes their style. That can be bags, jewelry or clothes!

I think bags, most commercial jewelry these days aren't worth the cost and you won't recoup in resale (unlike some bag brands). Additionally, it's becoming more and more difficult to tell lab created stones apart from real. The only jewelry probably worth investing in is pure 24K gold, and even then it is too soft to wear daily. I keep mine locked away and those were passed down from family. So for me, I'd buy the real bag, and get a versatile piece of 14-18K jewelry with stones that look real enough but for 1/100th of the cost :p
