If you could only have 1 20-motif, what would you choose?

I never considered the 6 motif magic because it seems too short for me, based off of the measurements online. I don’t want a short necklace close to the neck. The 20 motif seems to be around 34inches according to the website, which should be a nice length for me.

I’ll definitely try before I buy! I feel like the 10 motif seems a bit short and close to the neck - I wanted something that could be worn long.
When I first decided to add a necklace the 20 motif was my choice. Once I tried it was no go. It didn’t lay flat but bandwagon but once I tried it laid weird. I ended up ordering a 10 motif and connecting to 5 motif. This is the my preferred length as it hits in a good spot. Keep open mind and when you get to boutique try on all combinations and take tons of pictures

10+5 also seems like a good idea! Only thing is that I’m not a fan of the 5 motif bracelets at all. So I don’t think I would ever wear it on its own.

The earliest I can get to a boutique is 4 months away so I’m going to die of impatience!:panic:

Okay so I was scouring the VCA forum for all kinds of references to 20 motifs and 3 motifs and then discovered the 4 motif WMOP earrings... and then I saw a picture of @Notorious Pink on the 'special orders' thread where she was wearing a 4 motif with a 20 motif necklace (in Onyx though, which is a special order and I definitely wouldn't buy that) and I think it is the PERFECT combo (in terms of sizes and types of pieces), at least in a picture!! I absolutely love it!! I mean, I would do it in YG/WMOP which are both standard pieces and don't have a premium - but I liked how the earrings are so big and bold and then the necklace would sort of serve the role of a strand of pearls.

Here is the pic, which I hope she doesn't mind me referring to: https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/special-orders.932392/page-88#post-35203820

Any thoughts?

It doesn’t run short on me, but I think it’s something you have to try on. . .it can have nice presence when all motifs are visible
That's why it seems that 6 motif magic suits you because you can wear it with a deep V neckline to show off your physical assets.
Agree

I think it’s hard to say bc @Notorious Pink is not short and quite slim. . . I think someone who is shorter or bustier might have a different look. . . Here is a pic of the six motif magic. A higher neckline can hide the dangly bits for a simpler look.

i will surmise that someone short who has a shorter torso (and relatively longer leg) might fare better with a long twenty than someone (like me) who has a longer torso. . .of course, JMO

however, I agree with @eletons and others who have said it is advisable to try on IRL

Thank you for the picture! I think you are right that I would have to try it on. Just looking at the picture though, I think it looks great on you, but somehow doesn’t really appeal to me as much for myself… but I would totally be willing to give it a try!

I’m a size UK8/US4 and 5’3”, but with a bigger bust than you’d expect with that dress size. So I’m hopeful that the 20 motif would suit me! But I’ll only know once I try.

I do think though, whatever I do with the earrings, I would likely do YG/MOP.

I’m 5’2 and flat as a board, with a short torso. 20s do not work on me. They’re like an inch above my navel. Feels so weird. Definitely try them on first. And the only good thing is that it lays flat. If it were to dangle like hanging over a cliff, that would annoy me even more.

Thanks for the photo, I see what you mean. I’d want it to hit at least a couple inches or so higher for me, which it should, according to my ribbon-math lol.

I actually kind of like the dangle off the chest vibe - my mom has a pearl station strand that is around that length, and I like how it dangles just off the slope of my chest but doesn’t hit the bottom. But I haven’t tried on a 20, so I don’t know how I’d feel. I’m kicking myself because I was in a VCA just a couple months ago! But at that time the 20 wasn’t on my radar at all so I didn’t try it

Side note - the WG guilloche is super pretty! Feeling a teensy bit swayed towards it instead of the WMOP

Well, excellent if you like the dangle. But note that pearls are way more delicate than these more significantly weighted motifs. They swing. Just sayin’. Have fun trying them on!

Hmm, if we were choosing a 20 motif, but it can’t be solid metal or diamonds… I’m also guessing you mean something you can actually acquire, as opposed to pietersite or rock crystal.

I think I would go with tigers eye. A lot of dimension. Fun and striking patterns that break up the monotony of a solid color.

I think alternating is also a good option. But outside of carnelian/guilloche, it’d have to be a special order.

I also think the 16 motif magic necklace is also a great choice. You can do carnelian/tigers eye, chalcedony/mop, or onyx/mop. And that would go well with the magic earrings you’re interested in.

I have young kids, so I have worn VCA with both a small chest and a huge one! I think the 20 motif can work for both (for shorter folks, like me, it is not just the bust size but also how robust your shoulders are that influence how it hangs). Some people with a larger bust find that the 20 motif goes in the valley between the cleavage. I personally do not have that problem, but I definitely do with the magic pendant, and it is not a good look! So adding one more consideration to check for. I go back and forth with 20s, for awhile I only wore 10+5 (still my favorite length), then I only wanted to wear 20s, then I started wearing more simple clothing and easy-breezy more recently and I am back to 10+5. I think there is a place for either. For stones, I would go with MOP from your preferences, budget, availability and considering that it is classic and the most versatile of the options fitting your other criteria. I would also try Tigers Eye if it suits your coloring. It is one of the historical classic 20 motifs from VCA (you can see Grace Kelly wearing it). I personally love Onyx the most out of the most versatile and classic 20s, but I live in a climate that does not have sunny summers, and light and pale summer clothing is harder to pair with a 20 motif in onyx (though to be honest, I don’t love a relatively heavy 20 motif if it is hot and sticky out anyway).

Oof, good point on the weight!! I never thought about that. If it’s too heavy that would pose a problem for me. But let’s try!

You’re the second vote for tiger’s eye! Seems quite popular. It’s also a neutral so I think it could work well for me and I definitely wouldn’t mind giving it a try.

Special orders are definitely out, but I could try the carnelian and guilloche out! The only thing is that I’m not sure how much I’d wear a mostly red necklace.

I looked up the magic 16 motif necklace - didn’t know what it was - and I think it might be too long for me, at least to be worn single. Perhaps doubled it would work. I know it’s funny because I keep insisting that I like long necklaces, but the magic is 47” or so according to the website and that might be too much. Also, there’s fewer motifs so there might be too much chain visible. Still, I won’t know unless I try, I guess!

Omg thank you for weighing in with so many thoughts!! You’ve given me lots of things to consider!

Could you explain what you mean by robust shoulders? I have shoulders that are a fairly standard width but they are strong (I powerlift).

Thank you for pointing out that 20s can go between the cleavage - that would be unacceptable for me for sure and something I need to take note of!

I wonder if it makes sense to do 10+5+5? It would cost exactly the same as one 20 but I believe it works out to a couple inches shorter. And it gives me amazing flexibility, but I’m not sure if all those visible clasps would bug me!

I havent ever tried tiger’s eye, but I’m intrigued by it now! I do have what I’d call a “slightly warm neutral” complexion so it ought to suit me, but I’ll reserve judgment till I try it. But I am also leaning MOP because it just seems like the most versatile option of the lot. Onyx is cool, and I love it, but I feel like I wouldn’t reach for it in the summer, because I do wear a lot of light colours in the summer.

Thank you so much once again!
