I wonder if people are still staying away from Chanel after that gorgeous Cruise collection….

Chanel had no choice but to raise prices to keep it in the top rung otherwise it would have fallen under Hermes to the Gucci/Prada category. Nothing wrong with those brands but Chanel wants to be number 1 or 2.
Chanel items speak for itself. Of course the prices go up because theres so many factors to consider. I dont think theres a ranking between these brands because Hermes Chanel Prada and Gucci are all different they have different styles and they are all masters of their own respective universe.

What I find fascinating is the whole Chanel trying to be Hermes narrative  why not compare to how crappy any LVMH item is? :D

Exactly my point! I've never had these issues with any of my Chanel purchases (gladly/thankfully/etc) because before I walk away from the store, I check the bag. Literally. From every corner to smelling the interior like everything. That may be something that would raise eyebrows but i personally dont care because its my money and I'm paying for it.

Not that I am trying to invalidate the experiences of others but when i do buy a bag its usually when the collection gets released and the items are usually fresh out of those white boxes that Chanel ships them in so sometimes im confident enough to not even check it.

I have no doubts that these issue are caused after the item has been shipped out of the factory cause I highly doubt that Chanel would even allow some of these horror stories to even happen to begin with. Faulty leather, it happens with everyone. I remember seeing a YouTuber having to return a Birkin she just bought because the leather was cracking. Its not uncommon.

Why I stand by Chanel is I never had to play these games that Hermes has in place. I would not give my hard earned money to someone who doesnt want me as a customer. I've shopped at many Chanel stores and yes there will be these horrible SA's but what I do is I just ask for the manager and ask for another SA to assist. I've done this only once and lets just say I got the VIP experience then and there. Makes me wonder what happened to that SA.

Ahhh you were speaking sarcasm!? Lol

I wasn’t crazy about the LA shoe, but I think people give VV too much of a hard time. Not all of KLs collections were fabulous. Having said that, I don’t see how chanel is trying to be H or vice versa, except that chanel is pushing its bag prices to the 10K mark, and Hermes is really trying to up the wattage and price point of RTW.

I really like Chanel and plan to purchase another bag soon. I have not had quality issues and I am always welcomed at the boutique. I agree the prices have increased at alarming rates but to me there is only one Chanel. I do not play the Hermes games, I have never had that issue at Chanel.

I have been an Hermes customer for 10 years and have never felt welcome in any store worldwide. (I did score a Birkin as a visitor in Vegas but had no luck in London were i live).
2 years ago, after the pandemic, i walked in the Chanel boutique Sloane Street for earrings i saw online. They did not have them but arranged to get them the same day. Since i have shopped…an insane lot at that boutique and haven’t bought anywere else but i can truly say the pampering is real! Every visit, even when i don’t buy, has been a feast. The customer SA relation is wonderful. Been invited to a few events the past year and to Ascot in 10 days. From the security guide at the door, the manager, the cashier, they are all friendly and recognise you and say hello. At Hermes Bond Street were i have spent multiple hours: nobody says hello even if they have seen you a week before.
Not spending anymore money there.
