I wonder if people are still staying away from Chanel after that gorgeous Cruise collection….

I haven’t shared that experience.
I haven’t had any games with Chanel, nor have I had any quality issues.
Exactly my point! I've never had these issues with any of my Chanel purchases (gladly/thankfully/etc) because before I walk away from the store, I check the bag. Literally. From every corner to smelling the interior like everything. That may be something that would raise eyebrows but i personally dont care because its my money and I'm paying for it.

Not that I am trying to invalidate the experiences of others but when i do buy a bag its usually when the collection gets released and the items are usually fresh out of those white boxes that Chanel ships them in so sometimes im confident enough to not even check it.

I have no doubts that these issue are caused after the item has been shipped out of the factory cause I highly doubt that Chanel would even allow some of these horror stories to even happen to begin with. Faulty leather, it happens with everyone. I remember seeing a YouTuber having to return a Birkin she just bought because the leather was cracking. Its not uncommon.

Why I stand by Chanel is I never had to play these games that Hermes has in place. I would not give my hard earned money to someone who doesnt want me as a customer. I've shopped at many Chanel stores and yes there will be these horrible SA's but what I do is I just ask for the manager and ask for another SA to assist. I've done this only once and lets just say I got the VIP experience then and there. Makes me wonder what happened to that SA.

I love love love the collection.. but the prices arghhhhhh :whut:
I totally get it. I hate how the prices have gone up, I've said no to many items that I've always wanted but cant afford. I can understand what Chanel is trying to accomplish though with all the people trying to make money off of those most wanted items. Its all about business in the end and Chanel is just trying to protect themselves and doing it this way makes room for people who actually love and appreciate the brand. Probably also a way to combat hoarding i feel.... I mean really who needs a new bag every month; its really not sustainable for both the consumer and the brand haha but to each their own. Its all about business and perspective at this point.

How is Hermes trying to be Chanel,? I'm confused.
I usually like the cruise collections but this one, nope, not my taste
Birkins only became a thing after the whole resale gimmick. Its your money and spend it on whatever you'd like if it makes you happy so be it but its unfair to say that Chanel is trying to be Hermes when Chanel has always been it.

Think about it. Have you noticed in interviews of people who got a Birkin before the demand was high? Linda Evangelista shared her story behind her Birkin from 1985 (a year later the bag was officially released to the public) where her bag was on the top shelf collecting dust and the associate she was dealing with was even stopping her from choosing that bag. It was one of those bags where if you want it, get it type of bag, not because it is the best of the best but because of the convenience it provides; The same convenience that a Neverfull can also do without the insane mark up. Chanel was always it before the war and again (after the magazines embraced the Chanel look) and again (Karl) and then again (Virginie). Chanel will always be it. Way before the Birkin boom.

Later on, here comes the simple life where it can be seen in promos for the show and the infamous sex and the city feature then all these other shows began to use it as a prop like Ugly Betty and all. Then the fashion girls came in like Lindsay and posh spice which gave hermes some sort of leverage that this bag is something they can make money off of so they decided to increase the manufacturing of these bags but still seem to be impossible to get because they began to offer it to high spending customers when a fckng nobody (as the famous Samantha described them as) could walk in the store and buy a niloticus right off the bat.

I'm still confused about the point you are trying to make. Chanel is "it"? OK, for some people it is. For others, Hermes is better. And some of us like each brand for different things. Why is there a weird competitive vibe here? And who are you debating with? Maybe I missed something--which is entirely possible because I don't spend every hour of the day on here--but I don't see a lot of people on this forum going around arguing that Chanel is trying to "be" Hermes, or vice versa?

Chanel had no choice but to raise prices to keep it in the top rung otherwise it would have fallen under Hermes to the Gucci/Prada category. Nothing wrong with those brands but Chanel wants to be number 1 or 2.

Prices have nothing to do with quality. People who have these designers can tell the difference. Gucci is excellent quality and I have no complaints about my Hermes or Chanel either. Chanel raise prices because they can - end of.
