If you're going to be wearing this ring for a lifetime, eventually it will get scratches on it. I doubt anyone will notice and over time you'll have enough hairline scuffs from every day activities that this one will fade out.

Omg! Thats awful :/. What happened?

i accidentally banged my ring against the wall once, and couldn't find anything with my bare eyes so i thought everything was okay. The next time i banged it against my desk. Then i decided to buy a microscope (x40) to check my diamond out. And there is this huge dent near the corner! and small dents all over the diamond. i was so sad!
then i went to my jeweler to have him take a look at it, and he says it is indeed chipped and told me that another blow could make it break even more.. so now i don't really wear my e-ring anymore.

by the way, pricescope has a really good article about the myth that diamonds are indestructible.

so, don't be sad about your band getting scratch! enjoy your engagement and your beautiful ring!!

Awww are you okay? They should install some lights out near the steps or have a lighted pathway!! I'm sorry about your ring. I am the type where I am SUPER careful with my new goodies, and when that day comes where I see a nick/scratch and I get really upset! Then I realize that scratches and nicks are inevitable and I just accept it LOL. But I agree that you should have it checked out just in case. You will have to ask about charges. . I know cleanings are free but I am not 100% sure about repairs. I think you might have to pay for repairs. Buffing, on the other hand, might be free. I bought my bf an 18kt gold white band and it got pretty scratched up and the plating got worn away with a lot of wear, and they replated it for free (it looked brand new!). So maybe they will buff your platinum band for free?

Thanks, I'm a lot better today :) My wrists feel normal and my knee isn't as sore. I feel a lot better about the scratch on my ring too - it already doesn't feel as rough, so I think it's gradually smoothing out. I'm going in to Tiffanys in a couple months to get my Mom a mother's day present, so I may ask them when I'm in there to take a quick look at it, but I'm sure it's probably fine. And yeah, I'm super-careful too, that's why I felt so bad that it was scratched... I feel better now though :)
