Last night DF and I went to his sisters house for her sons 4th bday party. There are about ten steps upnto their front door, and it was dark out, and as we left and I walked down, I either thought there was another step when there wasnt, or vice versa, and took a step out into- nothing, and took a tumble onto the concrete sidewalk :/ I skinned my knee pretty good, but I thought my ring was ok til I looked at the band underneath- it's scratched! You cat see it unless my hand is palm up and even then you have to look, but.. Will Tiffanys fix it for me? I assume theyd just buff it out? Will they charge me? DF suggested keeping it that way because itmakes it 'unique', but I'm not so hot on that idea.

It was fun showingnoff my ring at the party though :) DF's three sisters were there and they all oohed and ahhd over the diamond. His older sister's got me beat though- hers is a 2.5 solitaire, alsonfrom Tiffanys. Not that it matters- I stilladore mine- its actually DF whos got a bit of shrinkage. he's said more than a few times 'It looks a little small now, doesnt it? i think we should have gone a little bigger. The first few times he said that I said of course not- Im happy with it, it looks big to me! Which it does, and I really am happy w/ it. The fifth time he said it though, a few days ago, I silently said the heck with it, and said out loud "well we could always upgrade early" in a joking tone... Suprisingly, he didnt seem that averse to the idea - he kind of laughed and said "thats true..." so who knows, maybe in a year or so, I'll be upgrading, lol.

^ I agree!
And you aren't "beat" just because someone else's is bigger, there's always going to be someone w/ a bigger stone, better car, etc. . .

The first scratch of a lifetime of many. It's all good. :)

Definitely....rings are meant to be treasured and worn....the scratches add character and make it uniquely yours!

Thanks girls, I feel better about the scratch now :) I just felt kind of bad - he only gave it to me a week ago and I already scratched it up :/ Even DF was fine about it though, so I guess I shouldn't worry about it :)

Which is why after I said that, I followed it with " Not that it matters- I stilladore mine", and made a point of saying throughout the whole thread that I'm happy with my ring :) DF and I were just talking about his sister's ring when we got home, as in wow, what a rock! I brought it up here in casual conversation, since I was talking about erings, because it was an amazing ring, not because I actually "think she has me beat" because her ring is bigger. Thought that was apparent in the tone of my post, but you never can tell how literally things will be taken over the net :)

Cara Mia, not to place evil thoughts in your head, but if you're going to exchange/switch anything, best to do it now if you can afford it. Would Tiffany's allow a switch to a larger stone?

Scratches can be buffed out if it really bothers you, but platinum will develop a patina over time anyways, so if you're planning on keeping it, I would perhaps leave it as is.

I've seen your ring. It's gorgeous! But having said that....it's not everyday that a fiance will say so soon that the ring could have been a little bigger ;)

I also agree with Swanky and lynette, you going to get scratches on the band your whole life. When I take mine in to get cleaned, they always buff out the scratches and it looks brand new-Tiffany's will be able to do this for you.

Don't worry :flowers:

Awww are you okay? They should install some lights out near the steps or have a lighted pathway!! I'm sorry about your ring. I am the type where I am SUPER careful with my new goodies, and when that day comes where I see a nick/scratch and I get really upset! Then I realize that scratches and nicks are inevitable and I just accept it LOL. But I agree that you should have it checked out just in case. You will have to ask about charges. . I know cleanings are free but I am not 100% sure about repairs. I think you might have to pay for repairs. Buffing, on the other hand, might be free. I bought my bf an 18kt gold white band and it got pretty scratched up and the plating got worn away with a lot of wear, and they replated it for free (it looked brand new!). So maybe they will buff your platinum band for free?
