My boyfriend and i are not together anymore and i was able to keep the ring. I want to change the setting so that i can wear it without any memories. Its on a simple 6 prong setting now. It is very plain. I always wanted to halo it but I did not want to make it have the illusion of being larger than it is or dwarfing the main stone.

I am looking for something in white gold and a filigree design on the crown. Tacori is out of my price range below are samples.

Specs: F VS2 slight blue tone
.78ct brilliant round
5.85-5.9mm

I was in the Chinatown area and I saw a few very nice settings. One had a micro pave halo with a baguette .08 on each side with 5 diamonds decreasing in size on the band for $590 (including sizing up and setting stone), 18k white gold, .40ctw but I felt that the side diamonds color/quality did not match mine. Is that normal? Do smaller diamonds sparkle less?

TIA

Smaller melee can have crazy sparkle if they are well-cut. You need to ask if the melee is fully faceted/cut or just simple cut. That will make a big difference.

Are you going to be wearing your new ring as a right hand ring? I'm just asking because the setting you attached looks like an engagement ring (to my eye).
You might want to check out Whiteflash.com, James Allen (.com) and Pearlmans Jewelers (.com) for some really stunning settings.

Yes it is a right hand ring and i am truly attracted to the halo style. The pictures i posted are engagement ring settings. I think the stones are simple cut and do not sparkle like crazy. The price is too low for all that. I will look at the sites thanks.

Put it on your neck or wrist. Add it to a ring that includes a lot of color. Trade it in towards a set of earring studs.

Putting it as a center stone in any design is pretty much still going to look engagement-like.

I want to keep the diamond because i love it, but wearing in that simple 6 prong setting annoys me a bit. i always wanted a halo and well now i can actually get it!

I can not wear necklaces or bracelets since i have excema there! rings are the only thing i can wear.

Since you can't wear necklaces or bracelets what about halo diamond earrings? Another option is to make the halo in another color (a different gemstone) and I think that might make it look less like an engagement ring. I would try and size the ring to wear on a pointer finger or middle finger on the right hand so it does not look like an engagement ring.

I am currently making my grandmothers 1.00 oval into a cocktail ring (RHR). I am doing a double halo with a halo closest to the diamond solitaire yellow diamonds. If you are picking melee stones you can get upgraded quality. You want the diamonds surrounding your solitaire as nice and sparkly as your diamond, you can pay for that upgrade. If you dont have the funds to do it exactly how you want it hold out and wait until you can. There is no urgency and I promise, if you set it not exactly how you want it now you will redo it later (been there done that).

That sounds like a great idea! a colored halo! Is your a custom piece?

There is a semi urgency, since i miss wearing the diamond it self.

Yes its custom. About 1.5 carat of diamonds and they are charging me $2600. I am using G VS2 diamonds. I am waiting for the approval video, will post when I get it.

I'm terribly sorry that things between you and your boyfriend did not work out. The ring you pictured is gorgeous. I say go for what you want. Who cares if it look like an engagement ring? Do what makes you happy and means the most to you. Don't try to settle for something you don't really want just for proprietys sake. Best of luck to you!

Thank you very much. I just got back from costco and i was looking at their selections of diamond halo style rings and i decided that this is not the way to go for me. For now on i will go with a setting that speaks to me.

I can try an antique style. Faycullen has some very nice pieces
