I can't speak to the Speedy 25 as I don't have one, but I do have SC BB. It is always the bag I will switch to if I don't want a logo bag to draw attention to. Yes it's a little heavy, but no more so than any other leather bag. The opening gives the bag much easier access than even my Speedy 30. I can't imagine getting in and out of the 25 with the limited opening. There is nothing better than SC leather. The Noir especially is so luxurious. It also holds quite a bit for it's size. All of my essentials, including a full size wallet fit just fine. Good luck with your decision!

You're right, the two bags are very different, so you'd better drill down on what you're really after. The SC PM is luxurious and heavy, and not crossbody, but with good capacity, more than the 25. The canvas bags are lightweight and designed for crossbody as an option (although I personally don't like duffel-shaped bags for crossbody because they stick out from the side).

You have to try these in person. The SC BB may be the way to go, if you want both luxe and crossbody--but it's still heavy compared to canvas.

I understand how you feel. Despite my love for bags and the attention I give to my collection, I wear the same bag every day to work because I don't want to be flaunting nor do I want to deal with comments or questions. Here are a couple of handbags that are similar in shape to the Speedy, yet still luxurious. I've seen these two bags in person and the leather is quite lovely. These two are lower in price than the SC so you could get both these and the monogram Speedy to use in your own time and still spend less than the SC!

I currently have the SC PM and the Speedy 30 monogram -- previously also owned the Speedy 25 in Empreinte (have sold). I agree that the SC is more luxurious and beautifully understated. It's definitely heavier and only shoulder or arm/hand carry. But I feel so special when I carry it! I'm usually not bothered by heavier bags either. The SC was my first speedy-like bag. I then purchased the Speedy 25 in Empreinte - so cute and also luxurious. The main thing with the 25 size is the opening being less long so you may scratch your hand as you take things in/out. I decided to get the Speedy 30 as I wanted a slightly larger bag with larger opening. I don't carry it as often as I should. I'm like you and am self-conscious of logo'd bags but have realized that it's ok to carry logos. I live in the SF bay area so LV is pretty common. But I only carry my monogram bags on weekends and not to work (I work for a bank and carry an Epi Neverfull instead). The monogram Speedy is quintessential LV and such a classic bag. Try to get both if you can (I see pre-owned SC's in very good condition on the reseller sites) as they could potentially serve different purposes for you. I have a SC PM in cobalt. I’m using her today with my LV epi leather strap which is slightly longer than the original strap. I’ve had her for about 4 years. This is a gorgeous bag and very luxurious! She is however heavy....I also have a speedy b25 in DE which I love! The opening is smaller but it holds a lot and is a great bag to take when I’m with my kids.

I own both. The SC PM can’t be worn crossbody and is definitely WAY heavier than the canvas Speedy. It has bigger capacity than the 25, but not by much. I love it and I use it mainly for work, because it’s very understated, but still luxurious. The canvas Speedy B is definitely more practical, though. I love both, but for different occasions.

This Polene is another great option, and the most affordable so far. I've heard great things about their bags, but unlike the MCM and Saint Laurent, i haven't seen this in person. Just wanted to share in case you were still looking for more work appropriate options! I think that might be the way, to buy both the monogram Speedy you want AND the understated alternative for work. Let us know what you eventually decide on - I'd love to see your bag!
