The people there are always trying to use scare tactics so they can make a sale. For example, I recently got a David Yurman 15mm prasiolite Albion ring from a VERY reputable eBay seller and when I brought it in to get it sized, the guy was trying to say I bought a "kickback" item when I told him I got it from there. He was trying to explain to my that there are "seconds" in jewelry like there are in clothing, (i.e. missing buttons). I was outraged. I'm so sick of bringing my jewelry to get serviced only to be told crap like this. Anyone else with similar experiences?

Did you tell him you bought it on ebay? I wouldn't have said anything. I would've just said, "Please resize this for me." If he asked about its origins, I would say it's a gift from my mother. Sales people can be a little weird about ebay items.

That's horrible. I never admit to buying anything on ebay to a person in retail for this exact reason.

Next time, I'd say something like, "Well, I bought it at xyz because I generally despise the high-pressure sales tactics of some salespeople. It's so annoying and it completely makes me want to take my DY purchases elsewhere."

I guess being honest doesn't pay in this scenario, LOL. I thought it was pretty ****ty for the guy to say that. That kind of crap totally insults my intelligence.

You need to find a different jewelry store; the owners know how their salespeople work and if that is what is tolerated at that store, I definitely would not be giving them any money!
Are you comfortable stating which store? Just curious because I see you are in New Orleans and I am in Lafayette. :)

I'll PM you the name of the store.

Edit: I can't figure out how to send someone a private message on here.

The store is in Lafayette. It's A-Bryans on Johnston. It was the owner that told me this. The older woman (I think that's his mom) was very sweet, but everyone else in there leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm familiar with that store; I don't think it is a quality store at all. I much prefer Lee Michaels in the Acadiana Mall. I've always received exceptional service from them.

Have you heard of the jewelry designer, Andrea Candela? He was trying to tell me her stuff was better than Yurman. My S/O was in there one time and his wife was trying to cram a Hamilton watch down his throat. I've been there only twice. I think I'll switch stores after this.

Ross-Simons (.com) sells some of the Andrea Candela stuff. I haven't seen much of it, but wasn't impressed by what I did see.

Lee Michaels has quite the selection of David Yurman jewelry. I actually have a pair of DY earrings on layaway with them right now. They have a generous layaway plan-10% down and 10 months to pay.

I've tried Gabriel's Fine Jewelry before for repairs, but I wasn't satisfied with the work.

Hallmark Jewelers at the Northgate mall has some really nice stuff, but only 3 month layaway and no designer jewelry.

I never mention where I get jewelry or watches. I either say that I couldn't remember, give a vague area like state or city, or say it was a gift.

Many of my designer pieces are purchased through my husband's company (not a jewelry company, but an authorized dealer) at a price most, if not all, retailers can't touch.

Those who do find out just want to see if we could buy items for them to sell in their store, because we pay less than what they could get the item in for.

As far as online purchases, many stores will try and scare you about buying fakes online, but there are many reputable sites that sell authentic grey goods at a fraction of the cost, often with the site's own warrenty. I will buy certain things online through these sites.

I moved to Lafayette last summer from New Orleans. I used to go to Aucoin Hart in Old Metairie. How do you feel about Ron's in the Oil Center?

I wanted to add, I think Andrea Candela pieces looks like Yurman and John Hardy mixed together. It's not original looking to me.

i never mention where i get my jewlery from. unless its from the actual store.

... and... i was in cartier on 5th avenue today. and they treated me like crap.

then.. the woman noticed my bracelet sticking out of my jacket a little bit.. and her tune changed.. but only slightly.

they should teach each customer as a sale. you never know when someone is going to go in.. underdressed.. and ready to buy.
