I brought a few pieces in to be cleaned and I was also looking for a new necklace for myself. I brought my pieces to customer service first, then proceeded back to fine jewellery to peruse and see what caught my eye. There were 4 SAs talking in a corner amongst themselves with no regard to the fact I was there. A greeter from the silver room came over and had to pull one of the SAs away from their conversation to let them know a customer was waiting to be helped.

I looked at 3-4 necklaces, all in YG or RG with diamonds (not that it matters but all in the $4500 range) and really liked the rose gold pave Paper Flowers necklace which I honestly didn't even consider prior to arriving at the boutique. The SA (middle aged man, around early 50s to mid 50s) proceeded to tell me the Paper Flowers collection represents that women need to stop trying to be men, and should embrace their femininity wholeheartedly because being strong should be left to the men.....um what!?

Why was this comment necessary lol!!! during the entire encounter with the SA he was distracted, aloof, and obviously didn't care to provide any level of customer service. I believe he made up his mind that I wasn't going to buy the moment I walked in that store, he solidified his opinion (my assumption of course) by providing the worst customer service experience I have ever encountered!

I agree that you should contact Tiffany customer service to let them know about your in-store experience. I suggest including as much info as you can: the store location, date, time of day. It might be a good opportunity for them to do some staff training on appropriate communication/comments with their clients. I do believe that a good salesperson will look at every individual coming in through the door as a potential customer, whether on that visit or a future visit, and in any case it is good for the company, which tries to be inclusive in its advertising and general public vibe, to know about the negative experience you had.

So much this!!! I went in once, around Christmastime, with my toddler...who proceeded to LICK one of the display cases as we were talking to the SA. I was embarrassed and we left pretty much right after BUT the SA never once made us feel like we shouldn’t have been in there or like they thought we weren’t going to buy anything. And then to get a sexist comment too...you should definitely tell someone.

Funny because the SAs at the Tiffany's near me are pretty weird too. Wouldn't be surprised if you went to the same one haha.

But seriously, not a great comment to make and I am sorry to hear about the bad experience. He should not say that, its pretty ignorant.

Although I agree that the service it’s self may have been a bit off....

I personally wouldn’t get offended over a comment, why are you bringing his age and sex in to it?
Why does every one have to be perpetually offended over the slightest thing ...
Having a sales assistant tell a female customer that strength is a men’s perogative and that women should stop trying to be men is highly offensive. He should be reported. It’s not a “slight thing” at all but a misogynistic point of view.

In your opinion it is highly offensive but not in my opinion.
in my opinion it was probably a clumsy way of trying to describe the item which has got blown out of all proportion but neither of us actually know what he said, the OP has told us from her perspective.

The OP has told us what the SA said, if those are the words he used it’s not just from her perspective. He basically said women should stick to an archaic stereotype. Of course I respect your opinion if you don’t find that offensive but judging by the replies here I think the majority of women would find it so.

I think people in general just sweat the small stuff far too much .. looking for offense in everything ..

I know you experienced bad customer service, but the fact the SAs were talking amongst themselves, and he seemed distracted suggests something is up with their jobs, or some bad news amongst the employees.

I wouldn't take anything personally these days. Maybe this one time experience is just a one time. Just them another chance. Be happy shopping.

At first I believe OP you should report it. In 2019 no one should say these things to either a male female or other. Not even to themselves.
Secondly if something was up with his job or whatever he should be giving exceptional customer service and not reasons to get fired. Because this is an actually pretty good one, and if someone dared to say it to my workplace he would be fired on spot.
Now thewildraven I was not raised to tolerate this behavior from anyone and I will not raise my kids if I ever do have to accept this! If you were raised differently that’s none of our concern, but the comment is clearly offensive in 2019! If he had stopped his sentence on wholeheartedly it would have been ok but he didn’t and Tiffany doesn’t pay them to give their opinion on the position of women, just on jewelry.
