I found a yellow diamond!

This reminds me of a story that I saw on the news a few days ago about a woman who bought a pair of red leather gloves but never wore them at all. She just kept the gloves in her dresser for a few years or so until she finally brought them out and discovered a diamond wedding band tucked inside one of the fingers. It was a really pretty three-stoned ring, so she now is trying to find the owner by advertising on our local news. That would be quite a find. She's also very awesome for not keeping it.

Not sure how much the diamond is worth, but be careful when getting it appraised. Doesn't diamonds have laser engraved serial numbers in them? What if the original jeweler had reported the diamond as stolen?

a diamond having a laser engraved serial number??? that seems too farfetched to be true. seriously? why would anybody deface a gorgeous stone by engraving a serial number in it? for what purpose? :shrugs:

wow. that is an amazing story. i bet the poor woman was trying on the gloves in the store and didn't realize her ring slipped off. holy crap, what a loss! considering how long it has been, i can't imagine anybody coming forward legitimately claiming it to be theirs. but you never know.

oh wow, both stories are so amazing.
so much guilt trip going on in this thread lol

I think you're so lucky and you said it's been years? How incredible never knowing you had something like that just hidden away. lol. Its like when you find a $20 in an old purse you haven't used in years lol. only its a diamond.

What a find! I say keep it and enjoy it, since you can't remember where it may have come from.

Actually, many diamonds have a tiny inscription to ID the stone with. Here is an example with an image of the inscription on a stone: http://goodoldgold.com/diamond/7874/

It is true in some cases. GIA sometimes inscribe a diamond with the serial number, but I found out this applies to only some and not all of their diamonds, mostly at the request of the client.

Hey.... guys.

I still haven't had the diamond looked at... but I totally would wanna put it in.. a bezel setting with pave white diamonds around it...LOL

We will see what happens...

I have heard of diamonds being marked.. but only large stones... I doubt this one was.... I did come to realize after starting this thread that... the bag it was in.. had a hole in the bottom.. that goes up and into the bag.. so it must have been stuck inside.. and lost for awhile.

Funny.. someone bought me a pair of red leather gloves yesterday.. hmm wonder if there is a diamond ring in it.
