I bought this bag in 2010. My first ever Coach bag. Used her the most out of all my other bags. Was filling her up to today and as soon as i put her on my shoulder this happened. I had noticed white threads coming out of the looped handles but did not know this could happen!!

This happened to anyone on any Coach bag with rolled handles?!?!

I am not hard on my bags and due to bad shoulders cannot load them up as they become heavy...but this still happened. I know nothing lasts forever, am i overreacting?

Wow, that's terrible! I didn't know that could happen either. I wonder if it rotted rather than actually wore out? The handles on my Sophias look fine but now I'm worried. I don't have any plain leather Sophias. Mine have an extra piece of leather wrapped around the base of the strap that I don't see on yours.

The three other handles have worn off sealant, the leather of the strap( outer most portion of the loop), a white material inside it and another piece of leather covering the white material, against the outer loop...

i am sorry, i am probably not making much sense, i am being silly and a little emotional. The bag had sentimental value.

Maybe this photo helps a bit, not sure where the other stuff/padding went...the loop just snapped as i put it on my shoulder...

I'm sorry about your bag. I think I would take it to a shoe repair shop and ask if they can repair the strap.

I want too, but the other three loops are starting on the same path, the leather is thin in that area, i cannot even put on any sealant...all four loops repaired with different leather, texture wise, might look odd, but thank you for the suggestion. I think i will try it, you never know, i might be able to get some more mileage outta it...

Oh no! Off to check my black Sophia.

I agree with you...I'd expect many more years than just four. It's too bad Coach won't likely repair it for you but you know, it may be worth a try.

Why not just cut the handles off completely and use the shoulder strap only. At least that way you can some more mileage out of it.

If you prefer not to cut the handles off and it has sentimental value, I'd give it a good cleaning inside and out, then condition it, stuff it and put it in it's dust bag in the top of the closet. Then you can take it out and look at it when you want to be nostalgic. :smile1:

Find a good cobbler and take it in for an estimate; he may be able to help but you can decide if you want to try and repair it or not - and perhaps strengthen the other loops too. Sorry about your favorite bag. My putty Sophia has been in the closet all winter, I'd better take a look at her!
