I second that! Read the threads and reviews of some. The rating is not an exact science.
How would you rank the top 10 premier designer bags?

I agree. Also there are soo many more brands that are not mentioned or widely popular on tpf. You can`t give a fair ranking if you are only exposed to a few brands.
For me, personally, here is how I rate them:
1. Bottega Venenta
2. Chanel
3. Celine
4. Balenciaga
5. YSL
6. Chloe
7. Givenchy
8. LV
9. Prada
10. Proenza
11. Hermes =)
I realize that Hermes is an amazing brand but it is so out of reach for me that It's not on my radar. That's why I have it ranked so low.

This would be really hard to do. I would write different lists as I consider different aspects of buying/owning handbags.
-Quality as compared to price
-Quality irrespective of price
-Design/aesthetic (very hard to 'rank' )
-Customer Service and product support
-Prestige

I agree....I would find it very hard to rank the brands in general terms...I'd have to look at specific points like what you've mentioned in order to make a fair ranking.
Came across this thread doing a search and it got me thinking.
My list is by no means based on my favorite (several of my favorites didn't even make my Top 10!) My list is based on workmanship, materials, practicality and usability & longevity (whether the bags can be carried now, 10 yrs from now or 50 yrs from now) - prices are not factored in (altho it does seem like the most expensive are near the top!) I have a feeling a lot of people would be surprised by my choices!

3. Delvaux/Valextra (I think these brands are on equal ground)

Wow... I am not usually a Chanel fan but I love that.... Pretty!!
