How to Prevent Color Transfer on Light Colored Bags

I regularly use Collonil Carbon Pro on any new bag, and have re-sprayed bags that I feel warrant extra protection (Collonil instructions say that you must reapply to keep the protection). I've sprayed Chanel tweed, aged calf, lambskin, and sheepskin with zero changes or issues. (I have a degree in textile science, so I feel confident that I'd notice any change.) I think one of the keys is applying in very light, thin layers, being careful not to be heavy-handed or create drips. I have sprayed multiple coats, being careful to let sprayed areas dry first; Collonil dries very quickly. I spray outside (out of direct sunlight), on an old white towel, inside a large cardboard box, to catch any overspray. Then I do inside, outside, top, and bottom of the bag in stages. I've also sprayed Gucci jacquard, leathers, canvas straps.....I love Collonil, and always have spares in the closet. I have a fairly large bag collection, and have experienced no issues spraying any bag of mine. Hope this helps you feel more comfortable! It is a leap of faith to spray a bag of that price, esp. the first time, but I've had nothing but excellent experiences.
This is excellent information, thank you!
How do you deal with leather woven straps? Do you spray and then wipe the metal? This is the area that is most scary for me.

Congrats on your new reissue mini! Love it. I've also heard of people using applegard on their chanels, but I would also be worried about texture changing. I would try on a spot inside or an inconspicious area first. I've also never heard of anyone treating the aged calfskin before, so... Sorry I can't be of much help.
Has anyone used Appleguard spray on Chanel lambskin. I have both Appleguard and a white lambskin and I want to use it but a bit hesitant. I've used the Appleguard on my Coach cream satchel and it worked very well- no texture change, rain water beads right off.

Yes, that is exactly what I do! I spray everything, and then just give a quick swipe over the metal portions. Honestly, I've never noticed any change to the metal on my bags, even on parts where you can't really wipe off all the spray (i.e. a Chanel chain strap woven with leather).

I've used Collonil Carbon Pro consistently on expensive leather and suede shoes, but never handbags. It's never changed the texture of leather but it's slightly roughened up suede as well as slightly darkened it, but not noticeable on shoes. Wouldn't recommend on suede handbags unless you don't mind the color darkening ever so slightly and the slight texture difference, but on leather, it's never changed the color or affected negatively.
