I recently got a mini luggage and realize that (1) it's huge (2) it's heavy and (3) I can fit a whole world of things into it :graucho:

Then someone told me that my bag will eventually go "soft" and it will flop and not look so good :( how do I prevent this? I like the stiff look and would like to have it stay this way ...

I had the same concerns!! There have been some good recommendations on the Samorga thread recently:

I think I may try some of the suggestions! I'm currently waiting on my Samorga insert. It's taking FOREVER to get here. In the meantime, I've been keeping it stuffed with air pillows and tissue paper when I'm not using it.

I think eventually, no matter what, it'll start to soften, which I am perfectly fine with, but for right now when it's still "new" to me, I'd like to keep its original shape for as long as possible. I can appreciate its lived-in qualities later on down the road ;o)

whoa, thanks for the link!

yeah I know it will eventually soften no matter what but until then ... haha I don't think I will use it sooooo much that it will be like... beat up looking hopefully.

The inserts are interesting but I feel like they're not ... my thing coz they have sooo may pockets! haha if it was just like a large square then that's cool

The inserts can be fully customised. If you prefer it to be just a square, Samorga can do it for you. Which leather is your Luggage made of? Smooth, drummed or the discontinued pebbled?

which leather would you recommend that keeps its shape better? i believe it is drummed right? and there was a trade off?

Personally, I prefer the smooth. It has a luxurious feel to it. I didn't appreciate how the drummed leather feels like but it takes colours better. Also, drummed leather is lined with faux suede. So that really takes the pleasure away for me.

There are threads existing documenting how the Luggages perform. I eventually sold my 2011 Shoulder Luggage away as it was puddling. Though my 2010 Small Luggage is still as stiff as it is when I first got it. They are both smooth but the Small had unique grain variations.

I have seen a lot of luggage losing shape. And wonder if it will happen to the phantom too? Any experts can advise?

My friend has the Natural Calfskin in Khaki that she bought end Dec 2011 and she has been using it very regularly for work. It no longer has the structure that it once had. The wings were starting to flop. I think that is to be expected with a leather bag in a country like Singapore.

Its gonna be so sad if its gonna slouch. I may be reconsidering to sell mine away for something more lasting.

I think if it is not your main work bag or if you rotate it enough and don't overload it, the leather would probably keep up it's rigidity. And I believe the Stamped Leather is a lot stiffer compared to the Supple.

I wonder if Singapore's hot and humid climate and most of us working in air-conditioned places with our bags would affect the leather? It's hot outside and cool inside... Don't sound good for leather. But I might be wrong.

I finally got my Samorga insert in the mail and immediately put it in my Mini Luggage! It's perfect. I'm convinced its going to do better job maintaining the Luggage's original shape than the air pillows and tissue paper I was using before. The sides of the Samorga go up high enough to help support the front and back of the bag so it keeps its flat shape rather than rounding it out like the tissue paper/air pillows were doing and the other two sides of the Samorga are filling the wings out really well so they're not caving in. Also, the Samorga is super lightweight but very well constructed. It's a great value. Turned out a lot better than I ever anticipated.

what is the difference btw drummed and pebbled? i thought it was the same thing? what got discontinued?

Pebbled was introduced in Fall 2010 and was replaced by Drummed in Fall 2011, if I recall correctly. Pebbled had a more visible graining while Drummed has almost an embossed feeling. The lining for both bags differed too, one suede and one faux suede.

There has been discussion here - http://forum.purseblog.com/celine/pebbled-leather-same-as-drummed-leather-781097.html and http://forum.purseblog.com/celine/l...r-with-use-pebbled-drummed-smooth-739103.html where you can see how Pebbled will puddle.

Personally - when a luggage starts to slouch a little I think it gives that 'seasoned' look, and the leather becomes so soft I kind of like it. Sort of like the Hermes rigide Kelly vs the souple, and I love that seasoned look of the souple when it's softened a bit. But I know people who prefer structured purses to maintain their shape, and if that is the case, I recommend always using a shaper or an insert, storing upright with the insert, etc. however I have a feeling that Celine luggages will over time soften a bit, to some extent. How quickly this happens probably depends where you live and how the bag is used and stored.
