yes you are right miracles do happen (aka finding your dream bag on the shelf) heck we have proof of that from somelovely ladies on this forum but they are not the norm. and not to sound rude but i often witnessed by myself that sa just say to call-in customers asking about the waitlist (there really is not such a thing or at least not in the stores i frequent) that they will put them on just to cut them off the line. as why should they call you and sell it to a not known person when there are already customers(even if they only visit occasionally or buy small things) they know in person waiting for it kwim?

not saying that this is the case with you as maybe they kow you maybe theyknow your mother etc just wanting to clarify that no matter how mayn lucky ladies actually find a bag on the shelf the days that birkins are easy to come by in your dreamcombo are not here yet.

lilach,
i appreciate what ure saying but it does annoy me when ppl say u must butter up an sa or buy many other things to win the favour of an sa. i have become friends with my sa over time as we speak the same language and she updates me on stuff whenever i fly to london. obtaining a birkin is not as difficult as its portrayed.

I don't think that it's that difficult to get onto the waitlist. It's just finding out exactly when the list opens is the hard part. It opens twice a year for only a couple of day or until all the bags they ordered are allocated. Did you try Selfridges? They are a new store and looking to build a client list.

But Paris is your best bet. I've done the trip in a day before to save on the hotel. Just just on the earliest train and take the last one back to London. Even if you don't get a Birkin, spending the day in Paris is just so much fun.

And I'm just curious, as I don't really mind the wait, what are the chances of getting onto the waitlist in London? Do I need to buy 5 scarves in 1 week for that?

Hi, i called the bond st store in Aug and was put on their waitlist for a birkin without any hassle. i am not a regular client and not particularly fond of any other hermes items.
my mother purchased a birkin a few months ago and she was not on any waitlist. i think you should call ahead and talk to an SA, you never know what might be on offer. there is too much hype around waitlists and having to buy other hermes items, this is not always the case IMO.
good luck

Thanks Sherbert! It's so great to actually see a real life story about what actually happens in london:) I believe whole-heartedly in your story as I read from another forum that according to someone who used work at Hermes, this brand is over the toply good at 'playing' the hard-to-get game. The SAs would make it look as if getting any Birkin without the wait, no matter how terrible the colour is, really difficult. So that the customers will buy them instantly, making up Hermes' huge sales figure. The sales pressures on the SAs are actually enormously large, across the world. That is another reason why they want to get customers to buy small accessories...

Your mother and your experiences are real inspirations for me! Now I'm gonna start calling the stores...in fact, if you don't mind and have tried other London stores, can you tell me how do you rate their friedliness/usefulness?

Thank you so much!!!xx

I would try Selfridges as I'm living only 10 minutes away:) but I thought they didn't have Hermes there? Maybe it's worth going over and check again...
Paris sounds nice if I didn't have to do annoying revision now:(

Selfridges dont have a list for the Birkin.. They told me they are getting a few in and have already taken lots of names so chances for getting one fromt them are quite low.

Can i ask ... Once your name is on the list for a birkin of particular colour size leather etc.. is this a guarantee that u will get it or will they still bump u for their reg clients? Do u know how long it take to get it after ur name is on the list?
thanks!!

Is it easy for a walk-in customer to get a kelly from either london or paris ? Also, Whats the price for a togo leather kelly -non exotic- ?
Thanx.

I've had decent experiences finding Kellys in London. As of last weekend the Bond Street store had a 32cm chocolate brown boxcalf retourne with silver hardware, and the H at the royal exchange had a 28cm gold togo retourne with gold hardware (£3,120). Both available for sale to walk-in customers.

Yes you should get your bag if your name is on the list.
My last order took 2 months. I'm waiting for another order placed last month and was told it could take 3-9 months :s. The answer is it varies.

Hello,

Just to cheer you up a little bit, I have a total different experience with Hermes "waiting lists".

I got my first birkin (gold epsom) as a walk-in in an Hermes Boutique in Belgium (Knokke). The whole process took one hour. I admire the bag during 15 minutes, the SA who had never seen me put the bag in the backstore for 30 minutes in order me to take a decision, and finally, a last look and the paiment!

Then, I put my name on a "waiting list" in Montreal for a black togo. During the month I was waiting, the SA offered me 3 birkins, diffrent colors and leathers...But din't buy any of them since it was not the one I wanted.

Then I traveld to Mexico City and I met amazing SA's who got me the black togo in one week!!!!

I think in my case I met the right SA's at the right time...

Not everything is written in stone and i know a lot of people who got their birkins in just several weeks or months.:woohoo:

There are always birkins available at the main Paris store. It is up to the SA to decide whether s/he is interested in selling it to you. Usually the answer is no unless you are an established client, but it could be your lucky day!

Good luck!
