How often do you fall out of love with a piece? Do you ever fall back in love?

Fun question!
I mostly redesign outdated jewelry or sell these to fund other jewelry projects.

The only pieces I fell in love again are my pearls. I always end up not wearing my pearl strands for a while and then fall in love again.

I wouldn't say I fell out of love so much as out-grew some of my jewellery and it has only ever happened with pieces from when I was in my late teens/early 20s.

It was pieces like a T&Co classic sterling silver fob necklace with the heart tag (and matching bracelet) and T&Co sterling silver bean and heart necklaces. I just don't wear stuff like that - not only from the SS perspective (I wear YG and WG) but also I don't wear necklaces as a general rule. I only have one necklace and it's a diamond necklace in WG.

I think sometimes it's a genuine "I won't wear this ever again" and other times it's more that you're not so into the pieces at that specific point in time but you will wear it again at some stage in the future

I wonder about the same thing!
During the 90's my DH gave me a lot of david yurman. Many pieces have dark red (not purple) garnets, pearls and diamonds. A lot of the equestrian style....a watch, necklace, those cable bracelets, several pairs of earrings.... It's pretty but feels dated to me now.
Once in a while I'll see somebody wearing it and I think that I should drag it out....although I don;t think I will ever wear any of those earrings again.

I have read that 80's jewelry is undervalued--I guess that means that lighter pieces are more in demand. Was looking at a book about David Webb. It's a beautiful book full of his animal and other designs that have such presence and opulence. But it does look very 80s to me. Not that I wouldn't give an eye-tooth to have any of it! It's the bling look, the massive scupltural gold designs that look 80s. I'd have no place to wear such elegant brooches and necklaces! (Rings look more contemporary but prices are so, so high).

To me, Yurman has managed to stay contemporary mainly because most of the designs are very tailored.

In general, lighter stacking pieces look fresh and appealing right now.
