Just curious as to what the current average price for an e-ring is nowadays. I know that as TPFers, we are a pretty well-informed bunch so it would be interesting to what everyone has to share.
If anyone wishes to, it would be interesting to see a photo, a description, and the exact/approximate cost of their e-ring. However, that can be rightly considered very personal info, so only post that if you wish!
I don't even have one, but alot of the girls I work with are either married or getting married, and I don't know them well enough to ask a curious question like that.

Hey there!

I voted... but just wanted to point out that this forum BY NO MEANS represents the "average" of all women in North America, let alone the world... while not everyone here is filthy rich this is DEFINITELY a luxury forum and there are a lot of very lucky ladies here!!!

What you'll get here is the average of a fairly wealthy end of the spectrum. There was a thread earlier about the average carat size of an e-ring and it was under half a carat for sure worldwide... they say less than 1% of women in the world own more than a carat if that helps put it into perspective!

Well stated, Surfergirljen! I think a better question would be, "How did you determine that your engagement ring was the right size stone for you?" You can also ask, "How did you choose your engagement ring? What does it look like?" IMHO, I do not think knowing the price for the ring is that important.

You can also browse Blue Nile's "recently purchased engagement rings" to see commonly purchased specs and prices.

I would just focus on your budget and which Cs matter the most to you. There are so many other factors that affect perceived "average" carat size like age, level of career, upgrades over the course of a marriage... I would just trust your eye and find a ring that flatters you at a price point you can comfortably spend (because trust me, weddings are crazy expensive). HTH!

THIS!

I come here to drool at the goodies that the richer ladies have (you know someone's rich when they describe themselves as "comfortable", LOL!) and I love it. I love all the eyecandy.

But I will never, ever afford to own a Rolex myself!

I think it's difficult to respond to this thread for a number of reasons.

First of all, what's considered average? And since the stones can vary so much, what are you wanting to capture? Diamonds only? And what's "average" for some may be considered below or above average for others, kwim?

Gimmethebag has a good idea concerning Blue Nile. You can play around with various sizes of diamonds/settings to get an approximate cost. They have an iPhone app where you can play the "dream box" - this gives you a variety of diamond shapes, settings, and sizes with prices. Can be fun!

At the end of the day, I feel the price of an e-ring should be what you and your partner are comfortable with- perhaps more so with your partner, since traditionally, he/she are the ones who spring for the ring.

I voted - a lot of tpf members helped me in my decision making for the ring

Also, something else to consider is the time these rings were purchased. Inflation and cost of materials changes all the time. For example, a ring that cost $10k in the 80s or 90s will most likely be significantly more now.

Something fun to know would be maybe what the intended budget is versus actual. My sister and I were both ring shopping at about the same initial price but we both went over budget and landed around the same place.

It's just hard to say.

I read somewhere that the average price of an engagement ring in the US in recent years is $3-4K. You can google for statistics.

My Tiffany solitaire was about $27K for a 1.9 carat stone.

So overpriced for what it is. I'm not a fan of the classic, simple setting, so for a future anniversary, we'll have to spend more to upgrade the setting.

When we originally started talking about engagement rings my darling fiance said he didn't have a specific budget in mind. (And mind you while he does well, he is by no means wealthy). I told him that was ridiculous and I would be comfortable with him spending $xxxxx and he said let's see. We ended up being about 70% over budget. When he saw my ring he asked the jeweler to take it out and for me to try it on. I LOVED it but I didn't want to say I did because it was well over the original budget and I didn't want to seem like I had to have this expensive ring. He ended up going back the next day and buying the ring. He said he knew by the look on my face that I loved that ring but didn't want to say it and he said the cost didn't matter to him because I "deserve it". What a doll! Love him!

I voted, but my original ering was a plainwhite gold band from Shane co for $39 :-)
I voted with what we paid for the ring I have now. BUt also keep in mind, some of us on here have had our rings for a VERY lond time, and might have paid way less than what it would cost now.
On top of that you will have a lot of people on this forum who might have bought from Tiffany's, which the same quality diamonds and band can be had for less than half that if one is willing to forgo the name.

I voted, but it probably skewed the poll as I got engaged in 1977. My .50 ct oval was $456.00. It was a real stretch for my husband and took every penny he'd saved. The stone now lives with a small pair of diamond earrings in a 3 stone necklace. Recycled!
