Due to the economy and job situations, how many of you have made the switch from LV, Gucci, etc. to Michael Kors, Coach, etc.?

I know that I used to purchase everything LV and then I started thinking about how many bags I could get for the price of one of their bags so I started making the switch. I love having many MK bags to switch to and wear.

I still own many LV and Gucci, but find my excitement level has changed so much and I like putting my extra money into interior design for my house, and buying grandkids alot of gifts.

How do the rest of you feel about this?

I like having a well rounded collection; I love my high-end designer bags, but I really see the value in more affordable purchases -- and I LOVE Michael Kors. Seriously, I think LV would be my number 1, closely followed by MK. I think the quality is good, the designs are cute, and now that I'm back in school (time for my doctorate - wish me luck!) I feel like spending money on tuition/books/etc is better than saving up my pennies for my next LV. I really want a LV Tivoli, but I think MK's are great investments.. they are fun and not too hard on the wallet. I think I need to be realistic, and while I will always love bags, I need to explore more styles and different designers!

Love your answer, congrats on your doctorate, very impressive!

I have the tivoli and have thought about selling it many times, it is a gorgeous bag but extremely heavy.

I am like you love LV, Gucci, then MK. You are making very wise investments in your education.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Good to know that the Tivoli is heavy (haven't even tried her out yet! I will keep this in mind as tend to stray from heavy bags). I am excited about furthering my education, but nervous too! I need to think of it as just another adventure that makes life exciting!! Thanks again, love the tPF support :)

I agree , love TPF, love to see what everyone gets and is lusting after:graucho:

I've never bitten the bullet on a super expensive bag. Every time I get close, I think "what if I don't love it enough to get my money's worth?" I feel like it is too much of a commitment and I would feel guilty if I didn't carry it all the time. I have so many bags that none of them get carried that much, so I prefer to keep buying bags in the MK and Coach price range. As long as the quality is there, I can't really justify the more expensive designer bags.

You would definitely have to love it, that's for sure. I used to buy high end all the time, now I have sold some and kept my very favorites but I am really enjoying switching it up. Maybe one day you will want one super special bag that will your prized possession, you never know!

LV has gotten so outrageously expensive over the past couple of years that I feel that I've been priced out of owning their bags. My personal limit is $400-500 for a bag and you can't even get a new wallet for that price anymore.

So to keep myself from buying over my personal limit, I've bought Coach. I like Michael Kors (even admit to purchasing their stock without even having bought a single bag from him yet) so when I'm in the market for something new, I'll probably buy one of his bags.

You are so right about the pricing it has gotten outrageous, even in this bad economy!. It is hard to imagine spending 500-1200 on a wallet, yikes! Coach is making some beautiful bags this season, but my heart is with MK right now, I have bought Coach for years and have loved them, but where I live the market is getting flooded with them because of the outlet stores nearby. I hope someday you will get and enjoy an MK bag. I think you will realize the quality is super nice and the styles are so amazing.

I personally started with coach (and am still quite loyal) hehe
however when the madison line decreased and legacy came around i was somewhat annoyed dont get me wrong love the legacy line bt too much of anything is never good alongside the major quality issues in leather dye and such kinda switched over to MK and fell in love with the saffiano hamiltons less quality issues, more color and sturdy! Ended up with 6!!

However I have noticed that like coach, mk is very repetitive in design and styles remain the same and new colors added throughout the seasons although thats great at times eventually theres only so many of one style one can have.

I have recently moved to LV and although the prices are super high I'm somewhat glad to know that theres not an outlet or same style made for less like factory bags often are mainly mk and coach. Although the twice a yr price increases are ridiculous!! It seems more of a better investment for the future :)

Switch is a hard word. But I love the new MK bags. And can get really excited about a mk purchase nowadays. Never happened before 2013. Lv is still mu number one. But I will enjoy what I have and will not buy many more.
