how hard/easy is barenia leather to maintain?

If you can't handle the first scratch on Barenia, like me, try a pre-loved one, that is what I do, so I feel happy even with more and more scratches are adding on it and I love it even more
This is what I did. I got a pre-owned,,,,,that way I wouldn´t get a panic attack with each mark. I love my bag, and I find the look to be very cool/boho, and perfect for the way I dress.

There's a trick to 'cure' water marks on barenia. My SA taught me this and at first I was like, *gulp*, but having tried it, it really works and helps patina barenia.

Make sure everything is oil/lotion/cream-free. Dampen a large piece of sponge and evenly rub it in one direction all throughout the bag. That's all :)

Funny. Because my barenia is my rainy day bag. I just wipe the water droplets immediately with a soft cloth and they dry out spot free. After an accidental (and very stressful) incident getting caught in a deluge, which turned out wonderfully, I have been completely shameless about water with my barenia. In fact when I carried a small shopping bag with her and the corner of the shopping bag (that heavy H paper is lovely, but tough) left several huge scratches from where it was swinging against my bag, I just grabbed a damp cloth (I use the floursack cloths that are lint free that I use to dry wine glasses) and gave her a little rub. Voila! The dark wet patch dried nicely and no visible scratches left.
Claude is giving her a drink and buff right now to speed up the patina process and I miss her terribly.

My new Barenia Birkin was cought in the rain recently, and the water marks dried away completely: I was very positively surprised! As Lovely rightly said, I love the boho vibe of Barenia bags!!!

Thats amazing! i wonder why water marks did NOT dry away invisibly on my barenia? the water would dry away, leaving a hairline outline of whatever shape the water drop/splash was......very very very sad.

I haven't use my barenia yet....I have to find the right day...but I'm sure after the first skratches I will be fine...Well, I must admit I'm very anal with my Birkins!

I am not a leather expert, but the band on my cape cod watch is barenia, and it had a mark on it before I even walked out of the store! It has many marks and has darkened considerably. Personally, I love it in a watch band but don't think I could live through the awkward stage in a bag. I do love swift for its smooth texture and the way colors saturate in it, but my understanding is it is not as tough as Togo or clemence. Please correct me if I'm wrong!
If you want to experience barenia in a less costly way, my advice would be to get a watch band or something small like that and see how it wears before taking the plunge in a bag.

I love barenia! It's soft and easy-going and very cool. You definitely can't be afraid of rubs, fingernail scratches and the like because they all contribute to its ultimate beauty.
