how far up the "back" of the stud do you put your earring backs?

Yes it does, and I'm banging my head on the wall for not thinking that a heavier stabilizer / back clip would keep droopy studs facing up. I had mine reset thinly so they'd lose some weight from the metal, I'm so angry with my self, I loved the previous setting but they studs would look down sadly. I'm also mad at the jeweler....
They come WG/YG 14kt, 18kt or platinum. I got these studs a few years ago and the jeweler "threw" the backings in the deal because the studs were expensive. I've seen this type of backing online. Like AME, I like to keep the metals the same. If you want a pair and have trouble finding ones you like...PM me.

You are so nice! Thank you! I know exactly what to ask from the jeweler now!

As far back as I can - given the size of the studs in front for both my diamond studs and my pearl studs, if I don't push them in as far as possible, the stud itself sort of hangs forward off the lobe.

me too. The holes on my ear are too low so when they are tighter, it makes the stones more centered on my ear, if it's loose they droop and look too low on my ear.

Has anyone had their lobes pierced in a different spot so their studs will look better and be more secure? I would like to do this because my first holes are too low, but already have too many piercings in my lobes.

Just slightly beyond the divet. My fat earlobes sweats a little when I have it too close to my ears and irritates the skin around it too much.

For diamond earrings, I really prefer screwbacks or leverback style. It feels a lot safer.

Looks like martinis are supposed to "sink" into the earlobes so those can be secured tight against the back of the ears.

Yes, I had a second set of piercings done this year to make them lower to show off my studs.

I had the first set of piercings done when I was a toddler. Subsequently I grew large thick lobes and earrings sat too high on my fleshy lobes. That was the most unflattering part of wearing my earrings as an adult.

I was unhappy every time I wore studs until I finally did something about it. I'm really glad I did it.

p.s. do the studs fit okay in any of your piercings other than your first holes?

Studs really don't look right in the other holes. I think I will get my ears pierced again in the spot that will make my studs look the way they deserve.
I wish my mother had waited to get my ears pierced until my lobes were developed. I don't understand the rush to get a young child's ears pierced, but I know many parents do it. Including mine.
