How do you react when people ask how much your bag cost?

I ask when was the last time they had sex. That usually derails the conversation in an aghast heartbeat.
Best... Answer... EVER! People ask me at times and I think it is none of their business- as someone said, if you are so dang curious, you can Google it.

My collection: Vintage Chanel/ two Prada/ two Dior/ two Gucci/ six LVs/ Jimmy Choo Tulita/ Fendi Spy Bag/ D&G/ Mossoni/ bunch of Coach, Dooney's/ Kate Spade
Wish list: goin' for a Birkin Bag, ladies, wish me luck!

1. IMO it's rude to ask! Don't pander to people who are rude.

2. These days, anyone can check online if they're serious. If they're not interested in buying for themselves, it's obviously a judgment call.

I was working at a shoot yesterday and a few of us took a tube (subway) a few stops. A (male) photographer ask me where I got my bag (Gucci Nice Flora Tote) and how much it cost. I just said "it was a gift from my mother" (which coincidently was this time, but I usually say it was a gift, even when it was a gift to me from me :D).

Afterwards I thought, why is a man (who has a BF not a GF) asking me what I paid? It's not like he's interested in buying one, and if he doesn't know it's Gucci from the print and he works in fashion, then he needs to get seriously educated.

If people can't work out what something is and how much it cost by themselves, no way am I going to be advertising to 'whoever' on packed public transport.

People at my old work have asked me the price of my Louboutins, which I was afraid was going to happen when I wore them. My old work didn't have anyone who cared about fashion in that way and so I always said I got them at the sample sale in NYC. It's a bad sign when your boss is shocked you have them when she makes at least double. So I don't wear flashy shoes or bags to a place where people don't wear these types of brands. Unfortunately, Louboutins are so well known now that even the ignorant recognize them as "expensive shoes".

But with bags, I always always really reduce the price. I should just say what you guys say without giving a number, fake or not. But once my current boss spilled a little raspberry iced tea on my LV SC and I had to tell him it was expensive and an approximate number because he was acting like it was no big deal!! Even after I told him he didn't seem concerned or sorry. Luckily it didn't stain or damage.

My answer is:

Argh! Too painful to just think about it.

OR

(If DH is around) Shh... I prefer not to discuss this when hes around [emoji16]

DH is okay with my purse addiction but he's a good excuse to use.

HOWEVER, I still need to figure out how to respond when my MIL asks that question.

All shoes look the same to me. What "gives away" Louboutins? Can't think of anything aside from the red bottom?

If it's family, I'll tell the actual amount paid. Coworkers or friends... no way jose! I'm usually a sale shopper so I find a price I'm comfortable with (so telling my mom that is ok). I would prefer that everyone else thing I paid full retail for my handbags...

Yeah, definitely the red sole. Everyone just thinks red sole = expensive flashy shoes. I can tell the difference in the shape of the actual shoe too that makes it a Louboutin, but I don't think most non-shoe-obsessed can. Anyway, I'm kind of over Louboutin for that reason. I feel like they're not special anymore and everyone has them. I like things a little bit more understated, though I still love the Louboutins I own.

I think this question is so rude, and if people don't realize that they should be educated. I think it's along the same lines of asking someone what their salary is. I would never tell anyone the cost , it's so easy to look it up online! This question is ONLY a pretense for some kind of unasked for comment afterwards, super annoying

I think this is such a rude question that I never answer I forgot or it was a gift because I think that legitimizes the question by making it seem like I would tell them if only I knew.

I tend to go with, "Oh, that's sort of personal, don't you think?" and change the subject.
