This thread is funny b/c it reminds me of an SA that corrected me a few weeks back. I asked for a certain Louboutin and he corrected me with, "You mean, Luh-buh-teen" or something weird like that. Whatever dude.

I've always pronouced Louboutin correctly but Herve Leger was the one I was embarrassed by. I totally Americanized that one at a department store. The sales lady started laughing it was so bad lol!

This is old news, but...

I'd say calling the boutiques to have them say it is the best way to hear the correct pronunciation, but the Madison boutique's voice mail has it wrong! The man's voice says "Loo-boo-TOHN." :shrugs:

While I agree that everyone pronounces things with their own accent (Seriously, how many people roll their Rs for "burrito" or exaggerate the cadence when ordering Italian?), I also agree that correct pronunciation should always be strived for. As someone pointed out, when someone mispronounces your own name, it can be annoying.

The 888 number has what sounds like an actual French woman on the message, so that's the pronunciation I'd direct people to. I think the American bastardization closest to the correct pronunciation of his name is Loo-boo-TAN. Loo as in loony, boo like when you scare someone, and tan like the color. (Most Americans can't hear the nasal N, much less pronounce it.)

The way I've always pronounced it rhymes with Louis Vuitton. I never realized it, though, until someone unfamiliar with Louboutin told me they heard a news report about Louis Vuitton and their red-soled shoes. I didn't say anything, but it got me thinking about how similar Americans pronounce the two.

I just laughed so hard I cried! LMAO!!!
My fave pronunciation of "Louboutin"

"haute couture" is even better

I get that a lot. I think people just breeze over what you're saying and assuming Louis Vuitton because they are more familiar with it. There's this song my DBF was listening to by Ludacris, "What them girls like" and I was looking up the lyrics and EVERY website says "Louis Vuitton" even though he clearly states "And Louboutin pumps". It drives me INSANE now every time I hear the song! LOL
