How do you justify choosing nylon over leather?

I have the nylon Prada reedition 2005 and one of my dream bags has alway been the Prada nylon backpack. But I find myself always thinking, for the price of Prada nylon, I can get a leather bag from other brands.

How do I get over this mentality?

Leather looks good even after it has been used for years every day, in my opinion, while canvas or nylon or other materials don't.
But it's up to you: what are you looking for?
If you're looking for a specific style or item, then go for the nylon bag!
If you're looking for something to use often, which can last longer... choose leather.

I agree....also want to say that from my experience with the tods nylon, it wears quite well. I'm not hard on my bags and I suppose you could tear the fabric but mine held up fine
Yeah, if we really want to dwell on raw material cost for luxury goods, almost nothing is worth the price tag. Even LV monogram bags are made of treated canvas, and the $5000 VCA bracelet is made of natural stones that cost less than $10

I once posted on TPF that I would never choose a fabric bag over a luscious leather... no way... not me... well, now I find myself fawning over the Prada Nylon messenger! So your question is exactly what I was looking for on here. I do agree that if it's your dream bag it's worth it.

My head is more around functionality. I'm a Londoner and no stranger to surprise rain showers and need something to jump around buses and the underground with. Less precious but still VERY COOL. Then find myself thinking... pay a few hundred more (ok, ok... a thousand ...) and get yourself a scrumptious supple leather Celine...

Any one here have long term joy with a nylon messenger?

Not a messenger, but a bucket! I absolutely love my nylon bag. I can carry it fuss-free in whatever elements, toss it around, stow away under a seat, you name it, and it's still looking as good as the day it came home with me 3 years ago. So I'd say in my case, nylon is 100% worth it.

Very reassuring to know!! That’s exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you!! Love that you’re still happy about your decision three years later - that’s v important to me. X

Prada nylon backpack (the smaller version) was one of my dream bags too and my then boyfriend bought it for me as a graduation gift few years ago. It’s worth it. It is so useful, though not as much now that I have a baby… but I have the Prada diaper bag for that!

It is a lot of money for fabric, but these days all the bags cost so much money… leather will definitely cost more than $2000 depending on the brand.

Get the dream bag. Once you do, you probably won’t think about all the other bags (or think about it less) and therefore save money.

Definitely! This is probably my favorite. It's 13 years old, bought it new, my go to travel bag and still looks new. Just love it! Worth every penny.
