Some people find renting designer bags as a shortcut to have their dream bags even temporarily. It might work for them but not for me as I see myself as an owner not a borrower type. :graucho:

My friend is similar to me as she prefers to buy and own her dream bags. However, she has two close friends with similar taste on designer bags. Each of them has a small collection of bags. Recently I noticed that my friend lend her close friends some of her designer bags for a day or two, which in turn they lend her bags from their own collection.

What I do not understand is that my friend does not like to rent a designer bag from those rental websites such as BBOS, while she is happy to borrow or lend her bags to her close friends.

Is there anyone else who is doing or used to do a similar thing? Also what my friend is doing is really different from renting handbags from BBOS? how?

I have no experience with bag rental sites.
I'm going to guess that it'll be similar to renting a car--someone else has broken certain features & left the fabric reeking of cigarette smoke.
Then I get charged for unseen damage, upon return, despite my honest face & heated arguments about injustice.

I don't lend my bags to friends. Call me selfish & insensitive, if you must.
But, they remain my friends easier that way.

I buy my bags. Or, they are received as gifts.
I don't get every dream realized immediately. Such is life.

Hope this helps.

I couldn't share bags with friends...can't even share an overnight bag with my husband. so I save a bit each month to realise the dream or have the bags bought as presents as nearest and dearest know and understand my obsession.

I stumbled across the bag sharing site today and they in my opinion charge a fair amount for 'rental' making saving that bit more attractive in my opinion.

Go to the boutique to try it on. Search for as much information I can on that specific bag. See which way is the best way the get the bag; through boutique directly, reseller, secondhand market, eBay, bonanza, etc.

I never want to borrow or lend bags. I don't like sharing.

I wasn't aware of a rental option, personally while i get the concept at heart, sorta a 'test drive' if you will i would not want the stress nor responsibility of using a bag i don't actually own.

I only lend to my daughters i would not lend to friends, i just think that could potentially lead to a break down in the friendship as said earlier... what one person idea of taking care and another can be quite different!

I wouldn't ever rent a bag. The rental fees are too high, if I like it I want to keep it, I don't want anything road worn and ...this is TOTALLY silly... it would feel wrong for me to wear it if it wasn't mine.

I would never lend a bag...again. I've done it a couple of times and it never works out well.

My way is to buy pre-owned (for a fraction of the price) in new, like new or excellent condition. As a double check, I ALWAYS have my bags verified by a professional authenticator (Etinceler for Chanel, authentications4u or Carol Diva for everything else) - even when the wonderful TPFer's help me out with authentication - because I refuse to carry a fake and don't want to profit a counterfeiter.

And sometimes, I make a game of it. I just bought a pre owned but never used Chanel medium double flap that is 2 years old from selling stuff in my house I don't want. It only took a few months and it coincided with spring cleaning. So now I feel a secret thrill when I wear it. 😊 And on the very, very rare occasion I want to splurge on something new / full price (like I just did a week ago with a Gucci) it's no biggie. It all evens out.

I would never rent a bag. I'm a germaphobe, and handbags are so personal who knows what someone else has carried in it.

I would love to own 20 Balenciagas in every colour, but my budget isn't that large.
You can't always have every single bag you want so I tend to stick to classics, that I love and will get lots of use out of.I treat myself once in awhile, and I'm happy with my collection overall.

It's just a matter of buying bags that you 100% LOVE and budgeting accordingly if necessary. Consignment shops are great too.

My goodness - reading this it doesn't sound like anyone here rents bags. So if this is a purse forum and we are all bag enthusiasts who don't rent bags, who on earth does? That's what I like to know....

^criminals, gathering exact details for producing counterfeits, might find such rental plans very helpful--if the rental bags are authentic.
Seems like a bad thing, in many ways.
