How do you decided on getting a new purse? Do you think about the hot colours of each season? How do you decide on how small or large the bag will be? What is your inspiration?

The leather is important. At the moment I am into pebbled or quilted lamb as lamb is lightweight in general. I avoid buying black bags. I prefer purple, red or taupe.
As for the size, I prefer a bag to be big as I carry a lot.....Cosmetics pouch, wallet, bottle of water, phone and charger, umbrella etc.
The price is important too. I have stopped buying bags over 700 euros......I have a few high end purses and I have realized that I don't use them a lot..
And finally I want my bags to be made in France or Italy.
And finally I insist on my bag's origin...

Wow I love everything you wrote there! Do you have some examples?
Do share...

Sorry, one small point though, what do you mean by the "bag's origin"?

Honestly? Impulse/instinct, then budget/value/quality.

Usually, I'll see a purse with which I fall in love. If it's within my budget and I feel the item is worth the price, I'll purchase it. If it's not within the budget, I save for it and if I still want it as much as when I first saw it, take the plunge.

For the item to be worth the price, I'll factor in designer, where it was made, materials, stitching, etc. I love pink, but tend to prefer colors that will work with my wardrobe or will be timeless and low-maintenance.

I'm petite, so I prefer smaller bags that won't overwhelm me. I carry a laptop bag of some form as well, so the crossbody mini bags are working well for me. I don't have to worry about juggling it, my laptop bag, and the all important coffee and if I need to carry anything larger, it can go in the laptop bag.

I mean I avoid buying Made in China bags, not that I don't trust the quality, some are very well made, but I think they are expensive if you consider that the cost of manufacturing is pretty low.....
I love Gerard Darel which is a very trendy brand. leathers and quality are perfect. Between 300 and 500 euros.
Barbara Rihl, Catherine Parra, Louis Vuitton coated canvas whose durability is incredible.
Le Tanneur Nina bag which looks like the Givenchy Antigona .....without the enormous price. Made in France and lovely around 400 euros.
Hervé Chapelier nylon bags (71 euros) and coated canvas totes (400 euros) also made in France.
Those designers show that you can make bags in Europe without being awfully expensive.
We must not forget that when we buy a high end bag......we pay for....the brand, for the rents of the boutiques on expensive avenues, for advertising campaigns with top models in all sorts of magazines, the real price of the bag is ridiculous....
That' is why I have given up on them.....;)

What you say makes a lot of sense, thank you.
Unfortunately for me, I live in Asia and have never seen any of the brands you mention being sold here except of course for LV which is all over the place and I agree that their quality is good.

I just look to see if there is anything I like. Would I carry it? That eliminates a lot of beautiful bags. I don't like to stand out too much. I cannot do bows or haircalf or bright pink, for example.

Then I have to see it (or similar from same designer) IRL. If I love it, I'll see if I have anything similar. If not, I'll figure out where I would wear it and what I would wear it with. How much cuter would it make an outfit? ;)

Then I ask the universe if this is something I should buy. I go with my gut. Is it worth xx $ to me? This is the reason I have not moved on to premier designers yet.

I never chase after a bag. If it was meant to be, it will be bought. :D

Usually there is a shape that I think I need: for example a shopper, a duffel, etc... Then I look around for bag of that shape that has the organizational features (pockets, dividers, etc...) that I need.

Impulse wants go on my "research" list, then I look them up online, check for sales, look at other brands I like to see who has anything similar, blah blah, I am kind of boring.
Otherwise I look to what I need in my wardrobe. Right now I need a red bag so that is what I am researching. I actually have my eye on red Marc Jacobs at a resale shop. I am going in tomorrow to see if I can get them to come down a bit on the price!

Oh my gosh!!! Good luck!!

They just automatically appear in my mind & I obsess about them till I get them lol

Funny when obsessing about 1 bag, I don't think about another bag till I get the one I obsessed about. Then a new bag obsession will just appear in my mind without me even thinking about a new bag!
