How difficult is it for you to part with your designer bags?

Thanks for all the responses and I can relate to a lot of them. I do have an emotional attachment to the first Louis Vuitton I purchased which is the large Musette in the Damier print. I don't see it anymore on the Louis Vuitton website. I also love the print of the Idylle speedy that I have even though I only used it once. I think that's what really keeping me from selling this particular bag - I just adore the look of the dark brown color against the patterns.

Ah well, I'll have to decide eventually but I'll try to do it when I'm fairly sure I won't have any regrets.

Just sent one of my Miu Mius to the consignment shop. I didn't have any second thoughts. It was too big for me. I think unless I had a real good reason to part with a bag, though, like that Miu Miu that just wouldn't look good on me, I would probably never sell.

Parted my Celine phantom two weeks ago... and it was such a tough time deciding. I got it from Paris and was the one and only black phantom available in the 3 boutiques i went. And Celine is quite difficult to score in Paris, very much depending on your luck since they receive random stock daily.

But the phantom was so heavy on my arm. Even my DH said it feels like 5kg and i didnt even overload it. I am going back to Paris again for baghunt trip this Nov. And my DH agreed i should sell the phantom to fund for better functional bags.

I've only had one regret in years of selling off my bags and that was a Gucci python box with bamboo handles. It was a stunning bag but I sold because it got little use. I wish I had kept it as a collector's item type of thing but c'est la vie!

I find it very easy to let go of bags I don't use, need or want. They are just bags. The older I get the more I realize material things are not very important in my life. I have about ten bags to sell now. I am only keeping two which I can use every day. Having stuff sit in a closet for years is not the way I want to live my life. I guess my desire to live a uncluttered and organized life is making it easy to let so many things go.

I read many posts where people sell a bag simply because it hasn't been used in some arbitrary span of time. If you still like it, have no pressing need for money, and have the space, why rush to get rid of something that's already paid for? That seems to start the viscous buy, sell, buy cycle that seeems to be so life consuming for some people. I have bags I don't use often but still enjoy pullling out for a change from my everyday workhorses. The only bags I purge are ones I truly don't see myself using anymore. I have actually worn bags out from use over the years.

If I haven't used a bag for a long time, sometimes I'll try carrying it again. If I still don't feel like using it and it's just sitting around, I feel guilty for keeping it and not using it. And I don't like to keep adding to the number of bags. So no I don't regret selling. But if I can't get a halfway decent price, I'll sit on them. I won't pay $500 for a bag and sell it in very good condition for $100.

Good point! The buy-sell-buy cycle is almost always a money-losing cycle.

If I haven't worn a bag in a while, but I still love it, I'm in no rush to get rid of it. If I have outgrown a bag and it no longer suits my style, or if it does not work for me in a practical way, then I'll sell.

I can relate to this.
I think my problem is that I'm so darn fickle and it ends up costing me a ton of money! I need to think about my purchases a little harder before pulling the trigger.

I sell my bags when I want to purchase others or just because they are not being used and are taking up precious space in my much too small closet.

I've only had sellers remorse with one bag, my LV Epi St. Jacques but honestly, I wasn't carrying it so away it went.

This morning I just parted with a bag I thought I'd never sell but I know she's going to a good home and I had my eye on something else anyway ;-)

I only sell a handbag after long and hard consideration. Am I EVER going to have a need for this again. Does it match anything in my closet? Do I have a similar type/style/color already?

If the answer to most of these questions is "Yes" then I'll sell.

Usually, there is a need behind each sale. A need to pay off my last purchase, a need to fund my next purchase. A need to free up closet space, etc.

With this method, I have never regretted letting go. :wlae:

It can be tough to part with a special bag, but a handbag wants to be carried. I know it may seem silly to personify it, but if you give it to someone who will carry it, then you have both a happy person and a happy handbag.

I just came from the post office where I received and immediately returned my new Tosca Blu bag - I found a Love Moschino bag that I wanted more than the TB...I know if I had opened the package and seen the bag, I probably would be sitting here with another new bag! It's a bit tough for me to give up things I really like, and bags are definitely one of those things.
