This morning I woke up determined to pull the three Louis Vuitton bags that I own from storage so that I can sell them. Sure enough when I retrieved them, the bags still look brand new. There are two of them that I've only used once and I purchased them over five years ago. The problem is, I just can't seem to part with them. I looked them over knowing full well that I probably still won't use them anytime soon or maybe in the future, but I still keep thinking if I part with them I'll regret it later.

So my question is, to those who have sold their designer bags, how difficult was it for you and did you regret it afterwards?

Hi! I recently created a thread because I sold my LV Delightful and immediately after had seller's remorse. I think if you have a reason to sell, like you could use the cash or you have another purchase in mind, you might not have any regrets, but in my situation I sold it because I just didn't use her and now I'm feeling super bummed. I think LVs are investments and personally if I could go back, I wouldn't have sold her. However I get attached to my bags ( I'm a sentimental sap) so that is just my opinion. My advice, don't sell unless you have a good reason! LV prices are going up, so if you regret it it will be hard to re-purchase the bags and you might take a hit. Just my thoughts

I think people know themselves.

I'm the sort of person who, once I like something, like it forever. So, if I haven't used a bag for a while it's not some kind of 'sign', it just means that I'll get round to it. My current 'rotation' included a late-1990s Burberry backpack and a 7 yo All Saints messenger that sat in my wardrobe mostly unused until a year ago.

I've also noticed that bags I've given away are ones I'd happily buy back :-s

Having said that, I have noticed on tPF there are many other people can tell that if they don't use a bag for a while it means they never will, if you are one of those types then seriously consider selling/giving.

I have no problems getting rid of bags or other items if I no longer have the need for them. Lifestyles change and so do tastes. Unless it's a one of a kind piece, chances are you will be able to replace it should you realize you want them back.

If you've only used them twice in five years, sell them!

I agree with this! Or, try using them again. You'll either realize why you bought them in the first place, or realize why you haven't been using them. Either way, trying them out again should answer your question.

Personally, I find it's easier to sell a bag I haven't used in a long time when I have another bag in mind to put the $$ toward. :graucho:

I've sold 30 bags in the last 3 years. A lot of bags were easy to let go of, but there were some I was attached to as well. I made myself sell them because no matter how much I adored them I knew I was never going to use them.

Out of all the bags I sold I only regret 4. Two were from Oroton (an Australian designer) and two were from Marc By Marc Jacobs. I regret them because I did not realise the design or quality would go downhill so fast by either designer. But you know what? All it did in the end was make room for other bags that I love and use more regularly.

If you don't need the money and Louis Vuitton is a bag that keeps its value -- keep them for another year and evaluate how you feel then. Louis Vuitton is constantly having price rises, and there is no harm in keeping sentimental bags.

I have given away and sold bags I didn't have attachment to and didn't regret it.
I started nitpicking the style, the color, material, the strap length, etc.
Once that started happening, I stopped wearing it and knew it had to go.

Perhaps listing reasons why you would keep it vs why you should sell/get rid of it would help you clear things up. :)

I've sold a Gucci without much regret as I was able to get a vintage Chanel. However there are some LVs I'm still undecided about selling because some are limited edition and hold sentimental value. It really depends on the bag and how much emotional attachment you have on it.

There are bags that I have rarely used for lots of reasons but no way am I going to sell them.
I like rotating my bags now and whenever I am interested in a new bag....I just take out the ones I keep in my closet. It saves me from a lot of spending.....

i don't have this difficulty. i use most of my bags quite often and i don't think they sell. over here people only buy second-handed items when they're in excellent conditions or very cheap. mine are not. so, i either keep them or throw them away ;)

Wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I gave my Mom my LV Tulum GM and I gave my sister my Gucci bag (I don't know the name). Both are in great condition since I basically use bags for a few months and then I'm on to the next one.

For me.. Difficult.. Because at this point in my life, i have other priorities and so i would probably never replace them.. I do try my best to spread the love and carry them all
