Hello, I've been searching for a good gold bag and came across the YSL Majorelle. I have a few questions for owners of the Majorelle.

In general: How are you liking the bag? It's functionality?

And specifically with regard to the gold: Would a medium Majorelle in gold be too much for everyday wear (during the summer)? Is it a really bright shiny gold or more subdued? On the reference thread I also saw a bronze Majorelle -- is that the same as the gold or did they make two different metallics?

Any thoughts or advice (and modeling photos!!) would be very welcome. Thank you!

Gold was called Volcano and stunning! I dont I don't remember the bronze but perhaps it was called 'gunmetal'. Mine is Ivory and I remember all the lovely colour patents (very good soft patent) and a YSL blue. Some colours didn't come out in all the sizes.

Plenty of info about the Marjorelle

Etc...

I love mine - it's handheld only but I do sometimes attach a seperate shoulder stap to help with the weight if need be (though it's not a heavy bag, mine is very big and can hold plenty). It has a structured shape carried but softer when set down, mine is still looking beautiful and doing me proud and looks great to smarten up casual outfits, so perfect with black roll-neck and slim pants and finishes a formal outfit. Funny enough the bag is more on-trend now than it was 3 years ago.

There is a gold (#10) and a bronze (#13) in pics inside the 'post pics of YSL Majorelle..." thread ^

BTW - no bag is easier to get in and out of because the zip opens so far down! All in all a very easy and functional bag - even in Ivory :D

Thanks so much for your response papertiger, and for directing me to the photos. I picked up on the part about it being a hand-held bag only, I've seen other photos on the Internet that show the bag being carried on the shoulder -- would that be due to size (med vs large)?
I'm definitely liking this bag but I'm considering it in a different color. Since it's quite a large bag I'm thinking that the gold may be too overwhelming. If anyone has experience with the gold, please chime in!

Probably the large size although that must be without a coat and it would not be comfortable. My shoulder strap works really well with no harm to the bag.

I thought I wouldn't want such a large light bag but actually the shape is so smart and clean it works, a med is smaller than mine so maybe not too glam. The Volcano isnt too shiny, like a sandblasted finish. You are making me salivate just thinking about it

Not sure if my input is timely enough, but I have an oversized Majorelle in black that I love! (Pics here: http://forum.purseblog.com/ysl-refe...ajorelle-bags-here-368680-3.html#post22796082.) It looks like a doctor's bag -- so classy and versatile. As papertiger mentioned, the zipper and metal frame allow you to really open the jaw up and root around for lost items.

I've carried mine on the shoulder in a pinch but not for any extended period of time. It's such a heavy bag, it starts to dig. Also, because the base on the oversized is wide, it makes my arm jut out at a weird angle.

Hope this helps!

I am honored to be Majorelle sister footnotation, after seeing your inspirational action pictures I love mine all the more.

Because they discontinued these bags there are not many around, I think this bag was before its time, now everyone is trying to design the perfect clean, Modern top-handle bag.

Oh papertiger, I totally agree! I bought my Majorelle around the time the Muse was in its heyday; maybe that's why they stayed under the radar. But the shape is a timeless classic and so very durable. I'd love to see pics of yours ;).

I am not sure I posted somewhere else but I do remember posting in here at #19 & # 56
