I love the look of designer bags but can't afford them, and won't be able to for the foreseeable future. $200 or so is about the most I could spend on a bag. I know it wouldn't be the same quality as a designer bag, but do you guys have any suggestions for lower end bags that have the clean, timeless look of designer bags? I like bags like Chanel, Hermes, Kate Spade, etc. Not gaudy or anything. Thanks for any help you can give!

Check Kate Spade when they have sales. I've gotten several nice bags for under $150 when they're running their extra 25% off sale items.

Not gaudy and high quality leather are my main requirements too. I just commented on another thread about how much I dislike michael kors and kate spade for treating customers like unknowledgeable idiots. My current favourites are everlane, marni, issara, matt and nat. of course mansur gavriel....My suggestion would be to get on the new brands before they become super overpriced, and keep an eye out on crowdfunding platforms for some great deals.

I personally like Dooney & Bourke leather bags. They are very well made and they don't break the bank. Plus, because they're not very popular (compared to Coach and Kate Spade), it is super easy to find them for cheap. The only con I can think of is that their leather bags tend to be heavy.

Are you open to bags that you may not find in the department store? If so, there are tons of beautiful bags sold on Etsy, all personally made/stitched by the people who sell them.

I don't own any of these bags, but I'm looking into this Italian shop called Del Giudice (http://www.delgiudiceroma.com/). They have good reviews online; I'm hoping when my roommate goes to Rome she can go to the store and buy one of their bags for me. They ship globally, too, and you pay for the pre-tax price if you are not from EU. A few of the bags might be out of your price range, but not by a whole lot and it's easy to find one that is less than $200.

Fossil makes nice bags.
Also if you wait for sales, MK and Kate Spade have really good deals from time to time. I just recently bought an MK tote for $150, and usual retail is $298.

I'd look at contemporary brands all brands inspire from each other so it should not be difficult to locate nice bags without spending thousands. As well many brands offer factory stores so that opens up a different angle to obtain discounts and even made for factory bags which often are available around 100.$ or less.
