Thanks for posting an interesting article. JMO, but what I found incongruous with the existing Hermes "mystique/aesthetic" and in contrast with the message conveyed in the rest of the article (summed up very well in @880 post) were the quotes: "to express that Hermès is “a super humble, fun brand,”" and "for us to be able to show that we’re warm and welcoming, and not so serious" (this caused me to snort in laughter).

Rolled my eyes to the back of my head there

It's been thus for years. Hermes' marketing team (which according to their CEO doesn't exist?) and the PR spiel is way off from the actual reality of the experience in many stores, as we constantly read about here.
One major example is how Horizon is run. People have been promised the moon on the website, only to be charged the sun and denied what they originally requested.

These are unquestionably situationally variable assessments. Actually, I think that for those of us who've been collecting H for decades and identify really strongly w/the brand the perceived attitude, aloofness, and elitism that some perceive in the stores either a) doesn't really register anymore, or, b) is rather easily brushed aside via relationships developed with other SAs. I wonder, though, if boutiques in some geographical areas have reputations for greater humility (or aloofness) than others...

I assume those "display only" are originated from old days "reservé" (wink wink) ?
Talking about this display only items. They are part of the inventory reflected in their system but it doesn’t indicate it’s not for sale. Just got to know about this recently. So it’s meant to be sold actually. Just that
they need new display pieces to come in before these existing display ones can be sold. Just like how Rolex and patek works now

When the in-store display is ready to be changed out by the VM team, one's wish may be fulfilled. This is applicable to the stores I shop at in Paris, London and Asia. So it's a good idea to make wishes known to my SA/ SM and be patient. It's being in the right place at the right time too. I am referring to bags displayed inside the stores and not any bags in the outside store windows, especially the FSH vitrines.

Odd that they call themselves humble and want to integrate with communities but both times I walked into an Hermes store ( dressed well with vca jewelry on) I was totally ignored like I didn't exist. Not even a glance to acknowledge I was standing there at the counter.
It was extremely disconcerting.
I almost spit out my drink when I read the word “humble” and Hermes in the same sentence. Of all the words in the English language, “humble” is NOT the word to describe Hermes.

Humble H is not. Interestingly, I go to many events where die hard Hermes fans attend. It’s usually a head to toe H show including clothes, bags and accessories. The most recent even showed the sign of economic times, significantly fewer H bags of quota and no quota variety and far less H clothing and accessories even from people who usually sport these items. Truly under the radar Loewe and the Row were the bags of choice and much less H clothing and accessories.
