Hello Hermès lovers,

My SA said due to changes in federal and state laws, sales tax will automatically be calculated and applied when we ship to corresponding states, if Phoenix has sales tax in their state, then I’ll be charge for their sales tax now...anyone heard of this change?

It hasn’t taken effect for AZ yet. I’ve been shipping from H a couple of times this year up to this past week. No tax. Don’t know if or when for AZ.

I used to ship to Wisconsin for 0 tax. With the new changes, I had to specify which county the city is in— there are three cities in WI with the same name. I believe county tax, not state tax. Even with these changes, it’s still cheaper to ship when compared to the 10% tax for Chicago!

States with no sales tax (ex New Hampshire) will continue to have 0 tax when shipped.

Just a quick question. Unless you live in Wisconsin how do you have it shipped there? Or do you ship to a friend and then you go to Wisconsin to pick up?

Just a note, your cc billing address and shipping address may need to be the same. My H no longer ships anywhere I ask.... and for certain goods, especially bags, I have to show up with my cc to be charged... even though I am a long-standing customer. Too much fraud.

I've been charged applicable sales tax on my Hermes purchases starting this year. This started for me late last year at other places (BG, NM etc).

I too am only allowed to ship to a billing address for large purchases from Hermes as well.

Yep! If the order is online the address needs to match. But if you go in to the store to pay with your CC, you can then have them ship it to whatever address you want. Before this was to a great advantage as you could avoid the state tax if you shipped to a state without tax. Sigh :crybaby:

Again, this isn't changing. If the state you're shipping to doesn't have sales tax, then you won't pay sales tax. The only change is regarding those states which have a sales tax but no physical Hermes stores. Shipping to these states will now incur the standard sales tax of said states, regardless of the absence of an H store.

Yep! My state doesn’t have H in it, so In the past i didn’t have sales tax. Now, i have to pay the state sales tax rate.

I wonder how the new tax law affects bricks and mortars stores that ship items out of state. Klynnean’s link refers to online sales. If I go to the DC store and buy a bag and have it delivered to my house in Virginia, I wonder if I’ll pay sales tax. But if I buy a bag online from H.com and ship it to my house. I wonder they will add sales tax. Hmmm....

I just bought in DC, and had it ship to VA with no tax. Seems like the law applied to MD not VA.

I haven't ordered through Hermes.com (USA) since January. I just purchased a scarf this morning and noticed that I was charged sales tax. I live in a state that does not have an Hermes boutique, and before today, my Hermes.com purchases have never included sales tax.
Has anyone else in the U.S. noticed this change?
