Who remembers the scarves of the Kermit Oliver era? Intricate details in every element and brilliant color filling every inch of the silk. I bought a Dior and a McQueen silk this year and both of them had far better details and colors than any of the Hermes I’ve purchased over the last couple years. I find myself completely skipping seasons now because so many of their offerings just seem….lazy.
I LOVE the Kermit Oliver designs, I have several....In recent years I'm only buying re-issues that I don't have. I don't know if H is running out of ideas or if they're trying to attract younger generations with their cartoonish and graphic designs: probably both. I do think they should at least have some more classic designs each season for those, like me, who don't like these newer ones.

I think they are trying to attract younger clientele with their offerings and save money along the way. Complex and intrinsic designs require multiple color applications = more expensive, so most of their scarves (and shawls in particular) are bland and mostly have white (or gris de chine in cashmere) base. Looking at most recent collections, there are VERY few colorful shawls, and most of them are just GRAY based (and with horrible quality of fabric to match). I am sure cost consideration has a huge aspect in this lack of variety. I don't think Kermit Oliver or Annie Favre ran out of the creative ideas all of a sudden. It is just to produce something similar to Dans un Jardin or Tsitsika would be cost prohibitive nowadays. H is in business of making money first and foremost, thus they print those faceless gris de shine shawl and bland scarves that no one wants.

Kermit Oliver is 80, and Annie Faivre is probably not young either. Her first Hermes scarf was in 1983. Who knows if they are even actively designing.

I think Hermes is trying to solve for many factors, such as attracting new people through the door. I am not sure that Annie Faivre’s classic designs or even Kermit’s ones will land well with the younger audience.

I have been buying many, many designs these past few seasons. While I don’t want any more Brides de Gala (was someone here asking for classic scarves?), I just bought three of La Vallee de Cristal. I bought 3 of Costume de Fete, too. Those scarves are brilliantly detailed and brilliantly colored. I find certain scarves like Animapolis too detailed.

Must say I agree… there are certain older designs that I like but a lot of designs prior to ~2010 can seem super ‘dated’ to me. I think the oldest design I own is …2015? There’s definitely a limit to the cartoon/modernness for me too - as I’ve stated I’m finding many of this seasons designs to be in the wrong direction at least IMO.

It’d probably be nice for all of us if H put out a ‘range’ of design styles each season - some that are super classic and traditional, some that are slightly more modern and have borderless designs, and then a few that veer super modern/cheeky. I guess maybe they are ‘trying’ that with their endless variations on BdG but… I need an eye roll emoji for sure.

Also agree that I think there’s been examples of glorious, colorful and intricate designs in the last few years.

What's up with those "village" bandanas with ruffles? They remind me of my grandma's couch pilliow in her farmhouse in the countryside... Only this "fun" will cost a few hundreds bucks:smile:))) and of course - those MUST be Bride de Gala (creativity at its finest LOL)
They remind me of a Balade En Berline Froufrou 70 Scarf I have which is interesting but hard to wear.

IMG_5232.jpeg”Mystère au 24” seems to depict the private Hermès museum, which is on the top floor of the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré flagship.

The museum has been ransacked, perhaps by the newest scarf designers looking for inspiration. After seeing this newest collection, it’s apparent that they didn’t find any.
