@880 , since you're one of our resident RTW gurus (or gurus in general), how do you like their cashmeres? My wife has a cashmere coat to die for, but I find their mens' cashmere coats not as luxurious or classy.
@Buildingprofile , thank you

I wanted to tag you here, and since you are asking about both mens and womens, my answer didnt seem like it should go in the guys thread. I want to preface this by saying that I have two cashmere H coats from 2020, and I have not bought a cashmere H coat from this season. But this season they are stunningly beautiful.
Mine are a cashmere body, togo leather sleeved sellier baseball jacket and a double faced medor cashmere jacket. Each of them were about 4K USD at the time, and I believed those to be relatively well priced deals compared to LP, brunello, chanel, and dior. The sellier baseball was the real winner, in that it provided warmth and has been durable through bad weather. The medor cashmere hasn’t been all that warm, and it is showing a bit of age despite the fact that I haven’t worn it much. But, I’m happy with them for the money. The new cashmere double faced H coats are I think significantly more expensive and range from 6400-8400USD, I think? The new ones are more lustrous and sleek, but I decided to pivot and buy a shearling H jacket instead. ( I should also say that I don’t have an fancy life conducive to a long cream cashmere coat, but seeing
@haute okole ’s cream shearling somehow convinced me that I needed one of those lol ) The closest comparable to unlined double faced cashmere for women in another brand might be a similar unlined coat from Akris or Loro Piana, but neither would have the adorable H details.
I don’t think DH has tried any men’s cashmere coats from H, either silk lined or double faced. DH has the LP cashmere Acier (from years ago) that has remained gorgeous and looks virtually new, and a host of other LP and brunello cashmere. Since I’ve tried a mens hoodie sweater in LP Gift of kings cashmere for 5K USD, I believe that this will LP sweater will hold up better than my H medor jacket. So, based on that and your opinion above re mens outerwear, LP may well make a better quality men’s cashmere coat. (Last season they had a fabulous camel hair long men’s coat, but I think it was 14 or 16K, and DH wasn’t looking for one ( he has a vintage vicuna coat ).
The main issue for us regarding mens coats at Hermes is problematic fit. DH is a mens 49/50 jacket, (I think his last H sports coat was an 48) and the coats are all over the map in terms of size. He saw a cute fashion techno fabric plaid or window pane coat today for 5350USD , but even a 42 (which the store does not have) would be too large. So while H coats have more style than LP, they don’t seem to have as flattering a fit as either LP or Dior. (The head of dior moved to LP, and I’m convinced this has somehow contributed to the sleeker fit of the current season at LP). DH also waited for months for an H black watch plaid bomber jacket that turned out to be oddly too short in the body; too full in the chest; and too short and full in the sleeves, and he is neither long waisted nor long limbed. Even our SA and the bespoke SA were like, no this does not work.
I do have several older silk lined chanel cashmere coats that are warm and have not shown their age despite more wear. I also have a silk lined alpaca cashmere long coat from Brunello (originally 12K, but my SA got it for me at 60% off) that is much more durable. DH has a silk lined cashmere pea coat and a long coat from dior that are durable and lux. But, these are not comparable to unlined double faced.
re sweaters:
H cashmere sweaters tend to square off my torso ( the issue is that I have a relatively large shoulder and not much waist). So, they look a bit preppy on me. I do like H silk cashmere sweaters and cardigans bc they drape a bit more. And, I prefer the silk synthetic ones with a bit of stretch the most. LP womens sweaters also look like the preppy handbook on me which is unattractive for a slightky stocky Asian, so I would recommend chanel or dior cashmere more than H Or LP. I do like the drape of H cotton sweaters, but they tend to bag out, so are better bought slightly fitted. I own a long twillane but am on the fence as it looks like a bathrobe.
all this is simply my own limited experience, and someone with a different figure or who isnt as hard on their clothing might well have different conclusions. , , .I wrote a novel lol, HTH
