 Excuse the intrusion, but as someone who is just an outsider looking in, that ad is not at all what I think of as the Hermès brand. Despite all the drama to get a bag, I think of Hermès as detached cool. Not for everyone. That ad is accentuating the drama and the chase. Kinda the opposite of cool.
To an outsider, yes, but once one gets to know H, H is does not take itself too seriously.

Also, with so many people starting their journey to desperately score an H bag to the dismay of long term buyers, what better way to quell the hype than make themselves cheugy?

Perhaps they want to make it known they don't only sell Birkin/Kellys, which is I guess all that 'sticks' in people's minds on SM.

People associate the chase for B&Ks, so perhaps it's move to attach 'legend' to a bag that is as yet not a legend, and then using the H-game MO of 'hunt' and 'chase' to make it seem more hard-to-get than it is.

Plus, if you can't afford the bag, suddenly you may find out there's they sell fragrances or lipsticks...

I think that this may be the reasoning behind this. Notice how for a commercial television advertisement H specifically didn't advertise a Birkin or Kelly but a lesser known bag. It could be trying to capture more market share by appealing to the masses here who may enter the H world thinking they scored a coveted bag it they purchase this one which may then lead them to branch out into other H products.

The Legend of the Della Cavalleria

They put it out in August. To me it looks like a normal campaign film, but it's good news for TV broadcasters if the big brands are returning.

Haha I kinda love it! Its satire! I feel like they did it just because it is like a movie trailer, so it would be fitting for it to air on TV

Gives me Game of Thrones vibes, which I love! Just as much as the bag itself!

I have been wanting to see the bag IRL since we first saw early glimpses of it on TPF.. The ad definitely reminded me to seek it out when I get the chance. The OTT tongue in cheek quality is like a little wink and nod to the audience. I do wonder if they will continue to produce tv ads... time will tell! :)

I feel like it was intended to be tongue-in-cheek, but doesn't quite achieve that (especially if you know little to nothing of the brand). It wasn't over the top enough to be obviously playful, but over the top enough to be a little bit cringe-inducing. Perhaps I'm not understanding their intentions, but I think the execution could have been a bit better to make it clear that it's not serious.

This ad feels like Hermes is tongue in cheek making fun of all of us chasing quota bags - if you were to insert a B/K instead of the DC, all of the lines would make total sense: "Find me the bag!" " An epic journey," "Once I find it I will never let it go..."
Watch it again but imagine a K/B25 in a neutral color, and you'll feel your heartrate go up :)

Oh my gosh. I just watched the video with this in mind. It’s so true. I couldn’t stop laughing!
Now imagine a very rare bag, like Himalayan Diamond, Faubourg day or night…
