our SA told us trunk is a new thing for men at Hermes as men don’t even have a look book (A book of runway looks that clients can order from). In a typical trunk show, (not Hermes) you can actually try on and place your orders. This is good for the boutique, bc it cuts down on the guesswork and usually saves on their budget. There is no ironclad commitment to purchase what you have ordered of in-stock items, though it is considered bad form and a client may not be invited back, if this is done to excess. In some trunk shows ( like Brunello) trunk show clients are offered the ability to choose from the entire collection, not just the home store buy, and they are also invited to customize their orders (custom orders are considered final sale /firm commitments to purchase bc they will be made and tailored to your individual specs).
The women’s Hermes trunk show last Spring was odd bc the boutique was not taking orders. In fact, they could not even guarantee that what was on display would be produced from runway, and we could only try on a few pieces like coats. For Madison women clients, we will be invited back to somethihg called rendezvous in July, presumably when we can actually order. (Dont know what will happen at rendezvous, if we cannot try on, bc of course there cannot be a firm commitment without knowing how the right size looks.
note: I hate to preorder, and I prefer to walk in and take my chances. But, I’ve been told that at least in the US the RTW buy will be conservative, so it’s possible popular pieces will enter the store already spoken for.
if someone here is more knowledgeable about mens hermes trunk show, I would welcome any correction. DH is relatively new to H RTW, and so is our SA. he has indicated interest by simply sending screenshots to our SA.
