Hermes made in China?

In recent days, I’ve come across several social media posts claiming that many luxury leather goods, including those from Hermès, are primarily manufactured in China. Has anyone else heard about this? What are your thoughts? I’m skeptical, but at the same time, I’ve always wondered how some replicas manage to be so well-made.
There’s a lot of misinformation online unfortunately…

The social media posts are definitely not true 🤣 (at least when it comes to the bags from H).

What is true however is that China pumps out a ridiculous amount of replicas and unfortunately a bag isn’t exactly rocket science! (…And with modern CAD software counterfeiting pretty much any piece of hardware is also a breeze).

I personally wouldn’t touch the pre-owned market of anything with a 10 foot pole but I know some people still have great confidence in online authentication services.

I think there’s a lot of detail that’s glossed over in words like “produced” and “manufactured.” And what does “primarily” mean? Primarily as a % of bag weight, of materials cost, of time, of something else?

I would not be surprised if some of the components/materials come from other countries. Whatever they’re doing, they’re meeting the requirements to stamp “Made in France” on their bags.

I don’t think it’s in Hermes’s interest to break it down into more detail.

Sex sells, shame compels and everyone wants the T.

Sensationalism gets the clicks and luxury non-consumers always think they know better than actual people who actually buy. In a world where teens go to Canal Street for their 'luxury' hauls and think they got bargains, you could literally believe anything - coz obviously many people do.

China has many wonderful artisans. However, if they want to make Hermes bags, they'd have to move to France. It's not worth it to Hermes (or many other lux companies) to say one thing and do another.

This is typical current-day exaggerated social nonsense. That would be like playing with fire even for Vuitton, but it's literally radioactive for Hermès. Also, they already lie so much, that they need a tightly closed production line to keep it under control. For that they need all their employees and suppliers under very stable Western legal systems where their NDAs are rock solid.
There is a ton of fake info of course, but it is also true that their customers are very defensive about the myth they are told.

In what way?

DT is an H client and has only had good things to say about Hermes in Deluxe, Fashionopolis, and Gods and Kings has nothing to do with Hermes.

The OP said ‘luxury leather goods including Hermes.’ I didn’t take that to mean she was solely asking about Hermes’ manufacturing practices. While Dana only has good things to say about H, she offers critiques on other ‘luxury leather goods.’

Perhaps we should move this to a more general forum?
