Hi everyone. I just ordered two pairs of the Izmir sandals for myself. I got a 45 and 45.5 to see which fits better. I'm torn between the two and am curious if any current owners can share how they loosen up over time. The 45 (moka) fits great but my heel is right at the edge, perhaps sometimes over. The 45.5 (tan) is a bit looser and sometimes there's room at the back. Any tips appreciated! Thanks.

As long as the 45s are comfortable and your feet do not overhang the sole (they don't appear to do so), I would say the 45s are a better fit.

I have a pair of H slides of a different design. They fit rather like the 45.5s on you - a bit long at the back - I will by 0.5 smaller next time.

This is partially preference as well. I prefer the look of being a wee bit “too big” rather than the feeling I get when the back of my foot is on the edge. Technically 45 is a better fit, I’d get the 45.5 as I prefer that look and feel. I’ve had similar leather shoes but not not the Izmir, so I unfortunately can’t help about their loosening specifically, though yes leather does loosen a bit over time, but not drastically unless you “train” it to.

I wear mine like your 45s. Back of heel to back of sandal. I also wear beach sandals a half size larger. I think the Izmir looks better as a more “formal” sandal where it fits to size. I think larger sandals look more casual. Just my two cents.

What is your US size ? I'm looking to buy for my boyfriend but I'm not sure which EU size to get...

Hello Fellow Hermes fans! I recently purchased an awesome pair of gold Izmir sandals for an upcoming trip to Santorini (3 weeks away!!). They look and fit great, however, when I walk in them, the left one keeps wanting to slide off my foot. I’m not sure if it’s that I’m not used to this type of sandal (i tend to mostly wear flip flops), whether they just need to be broken in, or if I need to add some kind of insert so that my foot has better grip. Any and all suggestions/thoughts are hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I think they may be a bit wide for your foot.

A gel insole for open shoes will raise your foot and take up the slack, you wouldn't see it from far away but I'd hate to see it all.

Thanks papertiger - yeah I dont want anything like that to be seen and also dont want it to ruin the sole of the sandals (sticky). It really seems like it's just the smooth leather that is making them fly off my foot. lol

Hello! I remember my first pair of orans many years ago and I had the same issue. I went back to the store and had it exchanged for a size smaller and it fixed the issue. Do you think a size smaller will fit you? It’s worth trying if it does!

P.S. I remember your thread on your birkin 40 journey! Love that noir for you and how has it been holding up?

Thanks Hermesgeek...and thanks for remembering me! I absolutely love my Noir Birkin 40 - I was so happy with the excellent condition it was in as well - for a 2008! Not a single mark. I've used it for travel as a computer bag and it works great for that. As for the Ismirs, I cannot go a size smaller - the heel of my foot is perfect now and a size smaller would definitely be too small. I am researching using an insert for the ball of my foot area. I hate to stick anything on these sandals, but I may have to. We are going to Santorini in a few weeks and I bought these just for there. Wish me luck!

Love that for you! That May be the greatest looking computer bag out there.

I am not a hundred percent sure but if you get those ball of foot gel insoles that don’t permanently stick to your sandals, your izmirs might be fine. I think those are easily available but definitely double check, I’m sure you wouldn’t want to ruin your beautiful sandals! Good luck and have an amazing trip!

I have gel insoles, they have no glue. I guess you just have to find the right sort.

Obviously H won't exchange shoes already worn.

Oh yes! Haha Hermes won’t exchange shoes already worn and I’m not in any way condoning or encouraging the return of any used items. Sorry if didn’t make that clear lol I meant that when I got my first pair of orans around 1999 or 2000, I brought it home thinking the sliding off my foot was just a moment thing in the store. But when I tried it on at home on a carpet, it still did the sliding off so I brought it back to the store to have exchanged for a different item but my SA had me try on a size down and the fit was perfect. What I’m saying is sizing down, if possible, can maybe help a pretty common issue for Hermes sandals as I notice they can be too wide for some people.

Quick update: I purchased re-positionable gel insoles and they totally did the trick. I've already re-positioned them a few times to get them at the perfect spot so it's good to know they are easy to pull off and on and won't ruin the leather. Yay. They're so much easier to walk in now and actually stay attached to my foot. lol Attaching a pic for reference.
