Hi All,

I just wanted to see if I could get any information on my questions below.

1. How hard is it to get a croc/alligator or lizard bag?
2. Is there a ranking in how hard it is to get one?
3. Is there a price difference between the lissie and the matte B/K/C?

4. Is it hard to get lizard constance?
5. Is it hard to get lizard compared to croc/ alligator?

Much appreciated!

There is a ton of info out there on all of these many subjects around the forum so I recommend you do a search and read up.
Basic info: all bags are hard to get, lizard is in lower supply so theoretically more difficult, and yes each leather type has a different price. The only real answers that matter FOR YOU is how hard these are to get FOR YOU and the only one who can potentially help you with that answer is your specific SA so recommend you go there next. Good luck!

There is an idea that bags made with exotic skins can be easier to get; because of the price premium they are less in demand by those who simply want a small Birkin or Kelly regardless.
Nonetheless Hermes has still got to want to sell one to you.
Production is limited by the number of artisans skilled to work with exotic skins.
There is a differential between all the different types of skins and hides.

If you look through the various threads on here you will get a feel for the answers to your questions.
As with all things Hermes, there are no hard and fast rules.

I would let your SA know you are looking for an exotic. I don't think it is any harder or easier than other bags. Your pre-spend might have to be a bit more given the price (mine was 1:1 price of the exotic bag). I think once you hit pre spend you should get the bag relatively soon. I don't have any experience with Lizard and I believe there is a price difference between matte and lisse. Hope that helps!

Actually looking on the price thread, it looks like a matte and lissie alligator were the same price. This is for a constance.
7/8 Matte Gator $30,600
8/12 Shiny Alligator $30,600 USD

If I recall correctly, there are two diff types of alligator skins (not just shiny v matte) one from US and from Asia. Then you have dif crocofiles- Niloticus Crocodile and Porosus Crocodile. Croc is usually for large bags and alligator for smaller (bk smaller bags). SA will discuss the subtle differences. Someone with more knowledge please chime in.
From info provided by SA, exotics are in high demand (and much less production) consequently they are offered to loyal long term clients primarily. With all Hermes, there are always changes depending on relationship, availability, being in store at right time.

In my experience it does feel like exotics are less in demand because of the higher price point so not everyone is after them, but of course less in demand doesn’t mean not in demand, plus those who are after exotics tend to have a longer history / profile / are bigger clients in general. As others have been said, like almost everything Hermes, there’s no universal truth or magical equation; it’s always about your store, your particular request, your timing (especially with Lizard which is push offer - meaning not ordered by your store but “pushed” out by Paris as they come out), your specific relationship…

Some people I think say it’s easier because the spend ratio can be lower. But, lower ratio doesn’t mean less amount of shopping - since the “1” for an exotics bag is a lot more dollar amount wise (as the bag price itself is much higher).

Just let your SA know that you are interested in exotics and go from there!

P.S. it does seem like this year there is an increased amount of lizard / a bigger than past batch going out so it might be even more important to let your SA know soon!

ETA: yes there are 2 different croc - nilo and poro. You can do a search and find threads discussing their difference. They are priced differently

1. How hard is it to get a croc/alligator or lizard bag?
Two-edged sword: on one hand, these are coveted bags, so often reserved for longtime/very valued/high spend clients; however obviously much more expensive, so fewer people trying for them. Overall I'd say for a newer buyer, exotics are actually a bit easier than a classic leather.
2. Is there a ranking in how hard it is to get one?
IMO no, except Lizard, which is rarer but also less in demand than croc/alli.
3. Is there a price difference between the lissie and the matte B/K/C?
There is a difference between Nilo, Porosus, and Alligator (Poro is the most expensive) but AFAIK not between lisse and matte. I can easily be wrong on that.
4. Is it hard to get lizard constance?
Yes. Lizard is just overall quite rare.
5. Is it hard to get lizard compared to croc/ alligator?
Again, it's more rare but less popular, also less expensive. Best to decide what you prefer and aim for that.

ETA: Depending on where you're located, exotics regulations will vary. In the US lizard has more restrictions than croc and alli because the US alligator industry has a lot of lobbying power.

I have notified her, it’s been about a year and she’s looking. I was looking for a mini kelly exotic but was trying to figure out if I pass on say a constance exotic because I wanted a mini kelly would that be a stimulus thing to do?

Thank you that was so helpful. As I posted below, I wanted a mini kelly lizard but open to croc etc. I was trying to figure out if passing on a lizard constance was stupid thing to do. Sigh

What I can add is the most likely Lizard Mini Kelly to be sent as a push offer, as mentioned by my Paris SA, would be in Noir. This is indeed rarer than a Constance in various colours of Lizard skin. Good luck!

It’s never stupid to pass on something that isn’t what you truly want, no matter how desirable / popular / rare that thing is! It sounds like what you truly want is the MK, and a C is not the same thing. Granted, a C is not a quota bag (may depend on where you are) so it is technically possible to achieve both.

For one anecdotal data point, I was passed for an ombré lizard C18 (as in, my SA tried for me but it went to someone else, whom I am actually very happy for & I am never angry at anyone when this happens, I know how competitive things can get!), and later I was offered a green lizard MK, and although these two events did not happen close to each other (not even the same year), when I picked up the MK my SA brought up the C again and hinted that the MK may not have come my way had I gotten the C. (I think my SM likes to spread things around.) I also got a gator C after. In the words of my SA, “things eventually work themselves out”

Also, I think being open to gator / croc (actually I wonder how many, if any, croc MKIIs there are going around? Gator seems more common on the small bag size) does increase your chances as that opens up your options. So I’d stay focused on the MK! Good luck & hope it comes your way soon!!
