I would never carry anything valuable when traveling to Brazil. São Paulo's crime rates are not as high as Rio's, but it is still considered unsafe.
Not long ago a person I know was waiting in the traffic, a guy broke the window of the car and took all her jewelry. Thankfully, she was left unharmed. Crime does't see faces or nationalities. Carrying an Hermès will make you a target.

To each to their own, but I don't think it is worth the risk.
Thank you! So goes the saying, if you gotta ask, the answer is ‘no’.

I totally agree, it’s not worth the risk. Makes me wonder though, where and when do locals wear their Hermès beauties?

Hello Everybody,
I wanted to know if someone well knows Rio de Janeiro ?
I will spend 13 days beginning of September (Rio de Janeiro and Parati to be precise) and I would like to know what is the security in Rio de Janeiro ?
Of course it's a big city and you have to be careful, I will not take Chanel or Hermes bags.
But if I wear my jewels during the night to go to the restaurant, is it really risky ? (for example, discreet Cartier necklace - earrings or rings)
Thanks a lot

My humble advice is to avoid wearing jewelry, of any kind.
Situation in Rio has not improved, on the contrary. Parati is slightly safer, still, I don't think it is worth the risk.

I haven’t been to rio in year but will going in November. I would not wear any jewelry at all. But that’s just me

Last time I went to Brazil, I left everything I didn’t want stolen at home. I was a bit surprised by all the Birkins men and women wore carefree in São Paulo. But that was in the Shopping Iguatemi and Palácio Tangará bubble.

To those who have been to Hermes Rio de Janeiro, do they offer the option to have your purchases delivered to your hotel? Likely I won't buy anything since prices are higher than my home country, but just in case..

Any info/advice/recommendation is appreciated. TIA :flowers:

Back from RDJ - a small yet beautiful store, prices are higher, there's no detax. The manager is very nice and helpful especially if you speak Portuguese.

Advisable to go early in the day, and if needed the store can help arranging a trustable transportation back to your hotel for safety purposes. :flowers:

Can you get a B or K as a walk in?

Hi! Does anyone shop in the São Paulo store. My husband will be there next week and he was going to see what bags he could pick up for me. Is it more expensive in São Paulo?
Hi there, I used to shop at the Cidade Jardim Mall store. I haven’t been since 2022 but they used to have great stock. If they want, they can find some really nice bags for you, specially if you are willing to spare some money in RTW, but prices are super high compared to US and Europe.
