Hi all,

hope everyone is staying safe and doing fine!

I'm looking for my first Birkin and found my deam combination. Gold Togo Leather, Gold-Hardware, Size 40 - perfectly for a guy like me.

I'm not quite familiar with the prices so it's in really good condition from a reputational seller. Is 9350 EUR a good price for this modell? What do you think? Comes with dustbag and receipt.

Hope it was okay that I created a new Thread. I couldn't find the matching one. :(

Hello and welcome, a great first bag to get started with!

If this bag is available for purchase online, I would firstly recommend you get the bag authenticated. This can be done in the following thread so long as your request complies with the rules posted in the first post Authenticate This Hermes Bag. If the outlet doesn't comply with the rules, you can contact Bababebi here.

The price is very subjective and can depend on quality, year of production etc, with larger bags typically having a smaller mark-up on retail as they can be harder for resellers to move. As a guide, a B35 in Togo currently retails for €8600 and a B40 for €9050 at last year's prices. You can view prices as collected by users 2020 here and 2019 here.

For the record I'm a guy about 1m75 and have a B40 in Bleu Encre, it's a great size bag and suits me well, but it's a tiny bit oversize for day-to-day city life.

Let us know what you decide!

In the current resale market, I personally wouldn’t pay over retail for a B35 nor B40. I would consider paying up to retail if the bag were brand new (boutique fresh) and my perfect combination but even then, there are so many bags this size going for less (on USA resale sites at least) that it would be difficult for me to decide to pay more.

From the look of the bag, it's been gently used and probably over 5 years old. I believe you could get it for less on many US reseller website around 9000 USD. But I believe it's another story in Europe.

With a bit of patience you should be able to find a preloved B40 for around 7000€. Demand in Europe (same as other regions) is lower than for other sizes and I have even seen them going for 6500€. You should be able to check the most known platforms for sold B40s. Having said that, only you can answer your question - if it is worth it to you and if you love it when it arrives, keep it. It might take a while to find the exact colour you want for a lower price. Hoping you will be happy with your purchase!

I think it's a bit on the high side. That being said, the Gold/Gold combo is a very highly desired one.
The questions are:
  1. Do you need it/want it now?
  2. Do you have a store that you can buy it new once stores open?
  3. Do you have a relationship with an SA that can source a new bag for you in the foreseeable future?
Also, once you receive the bag, you'll know whether it speaks to you or not.

Hi @igniels, I don’t know where you are but assuming Europe as the price is in Euros. I think anything is worth what you are prepared to pay if it’s your perfect bag and makes you happy within reason! Before you make a final decision though you may want to check prices on Collector Square etc. https://www.collectorsquare.com/sacs/hermes/birkin/?order=priceasc&page=2 I can’t find the exact same specs, but a lot of B35s and B40s at a lower price point and I wouldn’t say Collector Square are particularly low on their pricing. It may give you an idea of whether the price of this bag is fair though. That said if you really love this one then enjoy it. The price is pretty hard to justify to the majority of people not on TPF, it’s how we feel about them that makes them worth it!

Hello, everyone,

thank you very much for your really helpful feedback!

You're right, globally the price seems to be quite high - especially if you look at the prices in the USA. But buying there is out of the question because of the very high import taxes. I would end up with the same price. Thanks a lot for the hints! :)

I ordered the bag from the dealer, it is a big and respected designer second hand dealer who also offers a 14-day "no reason" right of withdrawal.

It should arrive next Tuesday, I am already very excited!

As you said, if I realize that it's just "the" bag, then the price will surely fit.

Thank you very much and take care of yourself and stay healthy!

Just want to tell you I feel you about euro prices. I'm in a hunt for my first too and haven't find any in exellent condition under 10.000 €. And I'm looking for B35. EU preloved market is expensive.
