I'd actually be very happy if things become so easily available that I can choose the exact colour, leather and size that I want and get it immediately/within a week... as mentioned before, H is still quite "exclusive at this price point. I don't mind seeing other people with H (in fact it's a great topic to start discussing about). Whether I like people or not doesn't depend on what they own. An idiot with H is still an idiot and a great personality without H is still a great personality

Just two years ago, it could be several months before any K wallet was available online and they were usually sold within a few hours. I think that the larger availability of SLG such as K wallets is a way for H to make money. Their larger wallets are quite expensive compared to a bag, even to their B/K/C bags considering that less material is needed to make these wallets. For the price they charge for the regular leather wallets you can buy a bag at for example Dior.

I saw several K wallets in alligator at FSH boutique in Paris just a month ago, and they were not only for display. The price was 11000 euro. I think that many people just find the exotic wallets too expensive to be worth buying. That is why they end up unsold for several weeks or even months. For 13000 euro you can for example get a custom made Lady Dior handbag in Crocodile.

Personally I absolutely adore my new Ostrich Bearn wallet in Bouganvillea with GHW. Yes, sometimes it's strikes me that I must be insane to pay $4,000 USD for a wallet (almost same price as a Chanel M/L Classic Flap!) but then I look at it and hold it and smell it and I fall in love all over again. The quality, the craftsmanship, the materials are what makes me fall in love. The after-purchase care allowing me the opportunity to send it back to Hermes for repair and maintenance for the life of the wallet makes me more able to rationalize the price. Chanel limits its after-purchase care to only 5 years!

I bought my bougainvillea Ostrich Bearn wallet because I own a 15 year old Marron Fonce Ostrich Bearn wallet that is still amazing after all this time. I've been able to spa it in the past for a minimal amount and Hermes even fixed the loose stitching at the corners!

It's the same reasons why I buy Cartier watches, all the quality and beauty plus the after-purchase care for maintenance and repairs.

At the end of the day, my Ostrich Bearns make me very very happy. That I guess must be worth $4,000 USD to me! And maybe I just might be crazy either way. Lol.:happydance:

PS. Hermes wallets are leather through and through! Unlike the Chanel wallets that have fabric lining and have snap buttons that break off and plastic zippers.

Chanel charges $1000 USD for their lambskin and calfskin wallets. The prices are getting awfully close to Hermes prices but the quality is way far off.

Dear Chanel, I love your designs, but if you want to charge close to Hermes prices, you must start providing better materials and quality with lifetime after-purchase care!

H will remain exclusive in the sense that not many can afford a 10000 USD handbag, no matter how easy or difficult it is to get it. Has it become more easy to get Bs and Ks? It is questionable. At FSH thread I get the impression that it is much more difficult, almost impossible unless you spend a night in front of the store to get an appointment... It is certainly not contributing to the exclusivity aura of those bags. Besides, being judged from head to tow by SA is highly humiliating. At the same time, if you are a regular customer at the same store, it is quite easy to get coveted H bags. I would not say I want my bags to be considered exclusive, in the sense expensive and try-to-get, but I am very embarassed that they are more and more associated with a flashy nouveau rich style, at least where I come from.

Word! Starting last year I started noticing that their prices have been increasing at ridiculous pace. I've been collecting Chanel for over 10 years now and the very same bags that I bought 10 years ago (I only buy the classics - like the GST, the flap, and the 2.55) are now at least triple the price. They have multiple double-digit price increases in a year, and i was told it was because of the strong U.S. Dollar. Now I work in Corporate Finance and I know exactly what it means when certain currencies appreciate vs depreciate, and to me it's nothing but an excuse to increase prices. Their quality stays the same and, as you pointed out, they have fabrics and plastics and snap buttons, so the insane price increases is hardly justifiable.

I guess in a way, it worked in my favor because I was able to sell a lot of my older collections (sometimes at a profit) as I'm clearing out the space in my closet for Hermes.
