He thought his career would take off after MOS, but that hasn't happened. For a year and a half, between the end of the shooting for MOS in Feb. 2012 and the start of the MFU shooting in Sept. 2013, he had no movies. The Great Wall that was supposed to be shot in between and got canceled wouldn't have taken up that 1.5 year period. Right now he has no other project lined up besides MOS 2. The MFU release got pushed back in a sign of lack of confidence from WB. So yeah, he has good reasons to be miserable.
He went bland during the MoS promo, he used to be much more alive than that, even when his films weren't performing well at the BO, from Immortals to that godawful film with Bruce Willis. So either it's the pressure of being in a franchise and keep a certain image especially portraying the biggest and most popular Supehero or dude management is just crap...? As for MFU, releases get pushed back all the time depending on either re-shoots or post production or other films potential to compete with each other, so imo it's no big deal, because the most important thing will be for the film to do well.
Since I don't follow this thread as closely as other UK fabs, I'd only add that he is maturing in the reality that is being in a franchise - others have been more crabs about it, Henry seems ok with his place in the franchise, but it won't always fit the circumstance...personally I think he's a beautiful man with something more to offer that has bad agency because it never seems to come forward...
Yes, it joins what I wrote above, I also think that the bad agency could be the underlying issue, from the bad PR move with Kaley Cuoco to the WB messing up with the contract and he can't sign onto other projects... He hasn't done an interview in a while and any publicist would try to keep his client in the news, not just the technical updates of Batman vs Superman, they could line him up a photoshoot with any magazine given the model face he has, find an interesting theme that could get him out of the usual suit-tie outfit in editorials. The whole thing to craft a more appealing image other than him being pretty, his publicist should be slapped across the face for being so lazy. Because even if he can't speak about the details of the film in an interview, there is always something else to talk about... Even the PR fiasco, he could be smart and laugh at it and give a self deprecating joke/answer. But I get the "he doesn't want to screw things up by talking about it" part since it was such an obvious mess. But he needs to step up the game unfortunately if he wants to survive and get past the infamous Superman "curse", a photoshoot here, attending a charity event there, get Gina Carano a decent stylist etc... Alright I will send my CV to appoint myself as his publicist!
I personally think he's better suited for a TV career than the big screen. He has mediocre acting skills (at least based off of the movies so far) and lacks charisma. Unless he can improve his skills, TV is better for him career wise. He can somewhat get away with his limited skills on the small screen and would have a more steady stream of work (assuming the TV show is popular enough).
Truth be told, the only thing he had charisma on was The Tudors. But it isn't set in stone that he is only built for a certain field i.e. TV, who knows, some actors can do both and also theatre, others can't or won't or whatever.. TV like big screen, it also has to do with the right script, the right director with whom you connect and the director brings out the acting potential you didn't know you had... Look at Texas T-Rex, he never ever impressed me in anything, but with True Detective, he truly gave me a punch in the face, ***** is giving a tour de force and I'm a brand new Texas T-Rex convert, Fukunaga had a hand on this (side note : and he is one hot director mofo) and it's T-Rex best performance to date out of all his acting resumé imo. Michelle Williams from Dawson's Creek, everyone thought she was better suited for TV and will end up lost in there and next thing you know it's the Pacey guy who is still on TV (love me some Fringe though!), Joey has nothing but a divorce with a guy who's part of a cult and wears uplift shoes, Dawson is non existent and it's Jen who actually had the potential all along... Fassbender has given the best/most memorable performances to date with Steve McQueen so far... the director is also essential.
My point is I tend to think that perhaps Henry Cavill has some hidden potential but he still hasn't found the one who would tried him out of the comfort zone, to prove us either wrong (he can improve) or right (that's all he can give us so far of what we've seen).
