Little deep for me, HCA was a 2.0. If you liked it in person, its a good price for that size and those specs and a GIA report. But I'd still keep looking.

And I definitely don't know where that 30K assessment comes from..GIA doesn't appraise.

Take the LIRR to Massapequa Park and visit Jon at Good Old Gold.

Glad to hear that someone recommends them. My boyfriend just proposed last night with a solitaire setting. He chose the diamond (from diamond district in NYC) and he said that I can then choose my setting. I'm deciding between Tacori and Verragio and see that they carry both brands. Hopefully they have what I'm looking for and they can set my diamond and I'll have the complete package. How is the service there?

Hello All,

I need some help. I want to buy a marquise diamond and are not sure which will be the best.
I am currently looking at D/SI1 Ideal Cut/Excellent polish diamonds with a ratio of 1.8-2.11.

Is this a good buy or do i need to go for a higher clarity and lower colour? What about F/G VS2?

I am so confused not sure what t buy - Please help and if possible could you please add some photo's in the same colour and clarity?

Thanks

You need to buy those by sight. Fancies are hard to do on paper and there's no such thing as an ideal cut marquise. There's excellent, there's very good, but no one grades those for ideal and they vary drastically. But I would go F/G VS clarity unless that SI1 is for sure completely eye clean.

I rule the 2nd out righ away. The weight is in the girdle.

You need to see these in person to make a decision. But #1 on paper sounds nice. Personally I'd drop the color and clarity to the F-G VS1 range but that's me. Then you can get slightly larger stone. If the girdle isn't thin, medium or one of those to slightly thick, eliminate it.

Buy the biggest diamond you can rated GIA GSI2 vg/vg/vg (or a FVS1 ex/ex/ex with another labs certificate.) Avoid large girdles and anything above mid flouro especially in the higher color ranges. Marquise diamonds are unpopular so very cheap; I'd check blue Nile, James Allen (they provide photos), Israel Diamonds etc and expect to pay around $4000 for a 1ct stone.

I own a D color round and I think it's a waste - in a round nothing 'more' than an H is required. For that shape there is less brilliance so you'll need better specs. Also keep in mind the 'bowtie' effect associated with marquise diamonds and make sure you really want one - a dark shape will appear across the centre.
