Help With Customs Fees Please

What needs to happen is the seller needs to send the corrected paperwork to you to present to customs/USPS for you to receive a refund.
This did happen to me with a bag I ordered from Paris- they filled it out incorrectly and I was refunded after providing them with corrected paperwork.

I hope I’ve helped.

you have

I am SO sorry you are dealing with this @livethelake ! The most I have ever been charged on imported leather goods was 20% on a wallet shipped direct from an Hermes boutique in France. This is most definitely a mistake, but the hoops you have to jump through are terrible. Bureaucracy really sucks sometimes.
Edited to add: 10% I would not be surprised by (I have been assessed that) but I've never seen the 20% fee anytime except a direct ship from Hermes, which frankly is customs bait - but you've been assessed even a bit more than that, so it's a mistake.

thank you so much....this is a cluster **** for sure. This bag came thru JFK and all I can say is the CBP officer was either in a pissy mood or totally incompetent. First time I have ever paid duty on a USPS international shipment.

Well....they've been doing all kinds of out of control things lately, like sending students with visas back against court orders. I know that doesn't help but it sure seems CBP is a total cluster****.
I would not stress too much about your taxes...unfortunately SS numbers are pretty easy to get, but fortunately there is not enough additional information in a tax return to do real damage. If the document does disappear, keep an eye on the credit unions or lock down credit inquiries. :hugs:
