Hi fellow TPFers

My future fiancé and I have been ring shopping and we have agreed on a setting and cut of the center stone just not the size of the center stone. So here we are going back and forth. I like the 1ct center stone below he wants to go for 1.5 ct or 2.0 cts. For the size of my hand would you guys go larger or keep as is?

Thanks so much for your help

I would personally get the largest and most well cut stone you can afford now. If in the future you decide to upgrade, the ROI in trade won't be in your favor

I might be the crazy one here, but I think the one you are currently wearing is perfect for the width of your finger. However others might find the porridge too warm or cold so your millage may vary. My sister in law has a twelve carat ring, which she seems to enjoy tremendously so maybe you'd prefer the larger two carat.

I agree with Christofle, the ring in the pic looks great on your hand. However, if it were me, and with an emerald cut center stone (is that the shape that you're considering?) I think I'd go as large as my budget allowed.

The ring on your finger looks lovely. However if your DF really wants to get you a larger diamond I'd suggest you let him buy it for you.

Do the ladies in his family wear large stones? Or his business associate's SO?

Thanks for the replies. I'm a size 7 and I really wanted something simple and classic. He wants me to get a larger center stone because this ring is under our budget. The thing with the Emerald cut diamond is that the bigger the carat the longer the diamond appears (not wide) so the 1.5 carat really only covers the prongs in the setting. I'm also a very simple person and would only wear this ring say once a week. We are getting matching Cartier love rings to wear daily. He's a head football coach so there is a range of different size stones amongst business associates and their significant other.

Do you tend to wear more delicate jewelry or chunkier/bigger/weightier pieces? If you are a delicate jewelry type, I'd say go for the 1ct. If you tend to wear more significant pieces on a regular basis, I'd go larger so your ring doesn't seem dinky in comparison.

If you want simple, why not maybe go with a larger EC in a solitaire? That would be more simple/classic. Also--there are tons of ratios for ECs so keep looking if you're not happy with the ones you're being offered. You don't have to get one that is just "long" vs has a little more width. Don't just settle for the ones this jeweler has. Ask for more or go elsewhere.

I say go with the one that you love. If you love it now, you may be happy with it forever.

If your fiance still wants to spend additional money on you maybe matching diamond earring studs or even a small diamond pendant (which ever you would wear most).

That's a great idea! Bigger is not always better but more is always better. :) I'm a certified nut. :cray:
