Hello, this is my first time visiting Hermes on the forum. I think I am now ready to purchase my first Hermes bag. I am ready to retire from Chanel. I have beening looking at the Lindy and the Massai (not sure if spelled right). I really like a shoulder bag. Or one that can be carried as a shoulder or handbag. Any suggestions would be great along with a color. Just tell me what you would suggest for my first Hermes bag would be great. TIA:smile1:

Just so you know, Hermes also has different leathers. Some are more durable than others. Hermes can refurbish (Spa) some leathers better than others.

Do you baby your bags or want a more durable leather?

The reference section has a ton of info on leathers, colours and styles.
Do you want a neutral colour or something bright?

So many things we need to know before we can recommend something for you :smile1:

That would be smart of me to let you all know what I am interested in, ect. I do want a more durable bag. I try to baby my bags, but I learned in Chanel I really preferred the caviar leather. For this being my first Hermes I would like a neutral color, one that will go with alot of different colors. Also, again I do prefer a shoulder bag, or one that could be carried both ways. I hope that helps some. I am going on the thread you suggested and do some research. Thank you for your reply:smile1:

Have a look at the Jypsiere too. You can see it on hermes.com, i believe. If the ever-popular neutral ‘etoupe’ doesn’t sing to you, you may like it in the classic Hermes neutral: ‘gold’ - which is a warm tan color, or even in one of the deep blues...
If you try a Lindy, I have always liked it in ‘parchment’ - a pale color sooo pretty!
Do you like the Kelly bag? If you prefer not to carry a structured bag, you can look for a “relax” I think it’s called. Anyway, lots of ladies like to carry their Kelly bags with the shoulder strap that now comes with it.
Definitely follow pursecrzy’s advice and spend some time on the reference threads. Then when you go into an Hermes boutique, don’t be shy to try on a few different styles.
Welcome to the H side and I must say it is fun, as you state in your signature, to help one another find a bag!

p.s. re: the Massai: at your height you can carry off the larger size well I’m sure. That style is a LOT of leather, just so you know.

The Bolide is also a hand carry bag that has a detachable shoulder strap.

Gosh, you all are great. I am checking everyone you all are suggesting. Does the massai. Come in different sizes. There is an electric blue color on bonanza but it looks small

It comes in a 32cm and a 40 cm.

FYI- there are two different styles of Massai: the original Massai and the Massai Cut. The Massai Cut is currently available in boutiques.

Another shoulder carry bag: So Kelly

Hand/shoulder bag: Toolbox.

So many choices!:smile1:

I thought I had about narrowed it down to a blue Massai Hermes pm that Malleries has listed, but now I have found a gold camel Massai Cut 40. I was told this color was no longer available in this 40 cut. I know they are 2 different sizes but what color do you think would be best for me. I am a casual dresser and wear jeans alot:smile1: TIA

Hi, I'm new too with H. I really want to buy my first HBag, but I don't really know which one, it will not be a Kelly or a Birkin, I think i'm a little too young to have one. I'm 30 and is 5'1 tall (asian! ).
Do you think I have to begin with a Victoria II or an Evelyn III or a Picotin? I prefer a more durable leather for an everyday use. A bag that can bright a casual jeans etc... but could also go with a more sophisticate style. I live in france and the weather is cold almost all the year, and the sun shine only 4 months a year.
So any suggestions are welcome!
And last question, do you think it difficult to buy others H bag as to buy a Kelly or a Birkin? In fact, I never went to a H boutique even there's one where I live. I'm a bit shy, so advices are welcome too.
Thanks.

My first (and only, for now) H bag is a Lindy 26. I am 5"3 so it works perfectly with my frame. Since you are tall (lucky!) you can also consider the Lindy 30 or 34, if you have lots of things to carry. I love my Lindy and carry it everywhere. It's casual and hardy.

ETA: my Lindy is rouge casaque and i love it. If you prefer pop colors, the Lindy is definitely the way to go.

Oh yes the Lindy 26 sounds like a great bag! Do you know the price? and is the rouge casaque is versatile enough to be wear everyday? do you find it easily at the H boutique?
thanks

It is official! I now own my first Hermes!:p I made my decision and purchased a Massai gm gold camel pre-loved and a steal. The girl purchased it in February total $4875.68 and she sold to me because she needed to pay bills for $2900 When I received it in the mail it was just as if it came from the store. Orange box, bag ribbon, ect. I have been carrying it eversince and I love it. It is like a piece of art to me. I will do a reveal when I get back from the Kentucky Derby. Thank you all for your help and advice. I am already saving for a classic:smile1:
